"andromeda strain" propoganda bs?
didn't like the first one, had no intention of watching the second, but a friend is, so I cannot help but hear some of the dialogue. "homeland security doesn't have the resources it needs"??? that, and the fear-mongering about the koreans (yellow hordes, anyone??) is it my imagination, or was this remake DESIGNED as a piece of pure, reichwingnut hate-mongering BS?

1. Suspend your disbelief
It is supposed to represent TODAY's world. And if you even saw any of it, you'll realize the GOVERNMENT caused the problem when it's MICROBE gathering satellite crashed to earth and the yokels opened it up.

3. I pointed out that I wasn't watching it, only hearing bits and pieces.

2. Funny sign in the new Andromeda Strain
Some gov't contractor, and the name was a mashup of Enron-Halliburton-Bechtell!!!

The exec producers are British and I don't think it's skewed right...

4. Michael Crichton is a total right-winger. And not that great on science.
Been doing a lot of research on global warming. Crichton's "State of Fear" was a dishonest piece of crap, sounding like something out of the Club for Growth. Remember "Rising Sun" or whatever it was about how Japan is taking over the world? The computer graphics manipulation content was BS. And "Disclosure" about how the biggest threat facing the United States was gorgeous, sexually rapacious female CEOs? Yeah, sure.

5. Little doubt, but...
There's little doubt in my mind that it's at least partly a propaganda piece, but not for the same reasons as others may think. The thing that bothered me the most was the rotating US Army insignia rotating on one of the screens in the Situation Room at the White House (isn't the Situation Room in the Pentagon?). It's army propaganda, not government, not "OMG we're all gonna die cause Lil Kim is gonna send some mutated agent to us!!!" Kind of an Yvan Eht Nioj sort of thing.

7. Umm the refernece was mocking Bushes failure to secure the ports.
This was FAR from right wing propaganda. It was more anti-gov then anything.

The most original things on TV since 1998 have been "Futurama" and "Firefly"... You know, two F-words...
