Heard This Theory About Scotty's Book While Getting A Haircut..... |
|
Edited on Wed May-28-08 04:55 PM by global1
Scotty seems to be implicating Cheney in a lot of passages in the book. What if Cheney is the sacrificial lamb and they get him to resign or get him impeached. Then Bush can put McCain in as VP for the remainder of his term and because he's there already - he's a shoe-in in Nov.
I remember a lot of treads here on DU that said Cheney would be replaced before Bush leaves office. Will this be that opportunity? Was this part of a plan for Scotty to write this book? or is this too - too Rovia

I would have expected them to replace Cheney earlier, though. I think it would have worked better.

Cheney wouldn't leave and Bush didn't have the guts to run the country without him.

3. I don't think his book is for that explicit purpose but I can see that game |
|
plan in the minds of those neo-cons if they thought it would work. Cheney would step down for health reasons or something but doesn't the VP have to follow some sort of order as the President does if he cannot serve for whatever reason.

4. I wish Bush would make McCain his VP - may McCain be embued with the full scent of Chimp |
|
Having more and more photos of McCain and his Chimp would be great for November, in my opinion

is that it would entail the thugs in the White House admitting to an error.
Ain't gonna happen.

8. I've always thought that eventually Cheney would be replaced |
|
Edited on Wed May-28-08 05:02 PM by Island Blue
for that exact purpose, but I think at this point they have jumped the shark and it wouldn't help McCain or anyone else to be VP. I see no reason why being VP would make him a shoe-in in November. I'm sure there is some Rovian reason for the book - just not sure that that's it.
Edited to add: I actually think this administration jumped the shark before they were inaugurated in 2001, but it wasn't evident to the masses until a couple of days after Katrina made landfall.

10. Its too late in the election season for that to work |
|
I expected something similar by no later than summer of 2007, but based on Cheney's health.
Its too late now, and having Cheney resigning based on a potential scandal would only reinforce the notion that everyone associated with the Bush WH is corrupt.
That would taint McCain too.

12. He has to be approved by Congress if Bush wants him |

Ford served 25 years in the United States House of Representatives and was Minority Leader for many years. When Richard Nixon was President, his first Vice President was Spiro Agnew, but Agnew resigned in 1973 because he took bribes while he was Governor of Maryland in the late 1960's. Nixon then chose Ford to be his next Vice President. Ford had to be approved by Congress http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Fordhttp://www.britannica.com/eb/article-77906/United-States#613283.hook

and if they get Cheney as a result of this, I'm all for it. Still, though, I think the scenario you outline is unlikely.

he'd get all of the baggage of being VP for the most unpopular president anyone can remember, but none of the benefits since he wouldn't really be in long enough to have any accomplishments to point to. A couple of months at VP isn't going to count as "experience". McCain would do better to stay as far away from the * administration as possible.

Would the subsequent VP appointee need senate confirmation? McCain might in fact get confirmed, I'm just curious.
Second - I'm not sure that McCain as VP would thereby make him a shoe-in for election in november. If anything, congress could tie him up in the confirmation hearings and severely limit his ability to campaign (assuming he would need confirmation)
