111 countries formally agreeing treaty banning cluster bombs

blessed are the peacemakers.....we are not among them

~snip~
Some of the biggest makers and users of cluster bombs cited by human rights groups -- such the United States, Russia, China and Israel -- were not involved in the talks and did not sign the accord. Organizers expressed hope that those nations would nevertheless be pressured into compliance.

1. United States, Russia, China and Israel: The usual suspects.
Aided and abetted by brave politicians like
John McCain and Hillary Clinton, of course.

5. Just what I thought hearing it. Such a horror. No defense.
And all that matters is, they do it because "Yes, They Can."

7. I don't believe this for a moment.
It is the trillions of dollars we have spent on war
(over the ywars), trillions of dollars that created
very little lasting "capital" at home, that has caused
our economy to resemble over-ripe sewage.

Had we invested those trillions *WITHIN OUR COUNTRY*
(on education, infrstructure, alternatives to fossil
fuels, etc.), we would be in wonderful shape right
now.

8. If we ever go to war in Korea again cluster bombs will save American lives.
They are very effective in killing massed troops, other variants are very effective in taking out armor formations. I believe that we should keep our cluster bombs but use them only when necessary. We should also use CBU units that either explode on contact or become inert after a short period of time.

Until we can make war go away I don't want to see our troops put in danger for the lack of effective weapons.
