I thought this was going to be one of those environmentally aware posts in which the world is shown at night, demonstrating how much energy we waste by lighting the world. Had no inkling it would be something so much scarier. :)

9. McCain is the only person I know who looks better when he frowns than when he smiles. |
|
It's not his dentist's handicraft. I'm sure he has paid enough to get the very best. It's the lack of agreement between the permanently intense, worried, struggling look in his eyes and the overly broad spreading of his lips.
I get the impression that his handlers have been forcing him to practice smiling. I wonder if there is a message on McCain's teleprompter saying: "Reminder: smile." Maybe they just put smiley faces on the teleprompter every time he is supposed to smile.
You can almost hear McCain tell himself. "Smile . . . . . . now." After each smile he seems to congratulate himself: "Now, wasn't that nice? See what a great guy I can be when I want to be. Doesn't everybody wanna' have a beer with me?" And after his speeches: "Did I do all right? Did I show enough teeth?"
His smile has an eerily insincere look to it.
Actually, I shouldn't focus on what a fool McCain is. The biggest danger for us Democrats this year is the Hillary syndrome: that we see McCain as such an unworthy opponent that we become self-satisfied, impatient and bossy. We must stay humble and cautious and realize that, even McCain, who must be the worst, least likable presidential nominee in my lifetime could win if we get arrogant, conceited, careless, lazy or complacent.
