The press could have been bleating til Kingdom Come and it would not have done a darned thing. Obama wasn't saying a peep.

It was her staunchest supporters like Charlie Rangel, who wanted to support Obama after he had clinched the magic number. This is who asked her to withdraw.

Please do not rewrite history.

1. It was a media conspiracy I tell ya!
Chuck Todd, KO, Tweety, Wolfie, Steph, Rachael, Randi, Mike Malloy, even Thom Hartman!

They all hated on Hillary!

It had nothing to do with the train wreck of a campaign or the horrible divisive message Hillary herself put out there ("The sky will open up and the heavenly choir will sing!")

nope, had to be the media.

Oh yeah, BTW... :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

4. Yes, all those pundits did hate Hillary.
Being sarcastic doesn't change that. If your candidate had had such hateful media coverage it wouldn't have been OK and it wasn't OK when Hillary received it. But you seem to think that because your candidate benefited it was fine. Nope, it wasn't, and when the media turns on your candidate you'll understand that.

5. two different things
the media may have turned on Hillary after talking for months and months about her as the "coronated" candidate who had already won - and that's exactly what happened. I think the Daily Show was the one that compiled a bunch of those and showed them the other evening.

In those months, no other candidate needed to run, it seemed, cause it was all Hillary. So, your candidate was also favored at one point too.

however, the media did note the statistical impossibility of her win - when that was true. Hillary misrepresented reality to her supporters by claiming she had some chance to win other than by changing the rules near the end of the game...something called cheating were I live.

John Edwards was ignored by the media. they denied him coverage that Hillary got... so other candidates suffered as much media unfairness as she did, as far as it all goes.

Hillary lost after she was the presumed nominee. She had ever advantage going in to this primary and she lost. The media did not lose this primary for her. She lost it herself.

8. That's how I remember it too, Raindog
She was coronated way back in the spring of 2006. All Hilary, all the time.

9. You somehow forget the "all rev Wright all the time" coverage..
not to mention the SNL parodies that were mostly very pro-Hillary.

And, with the exception of Tweety in the list who is very sexist and anti-dem, the media didn't "turn" on Hillary until it became clear that she couldn't win... and even then it was mostly her slimy negative campaign.

7. That's what you get for assuming, Charlie!
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 09:57 AM by rocknation
(June 4)...In an interview with ABC News, Rep. Charles Rangel said he thinks it is time for Clinton to publicly clarify what she is doing and allow her supporters to switch their allegiance to Barack Obama. “Unless she has some good reasons--which I can’t think of--I really think we ought to get on with endorsements (of Obama) and dealing with what we have to deal with...so we can move forward,” Rangel said.

Rangel last spoke with Senator Clinton privately on Tuesday during the day. On Wednesday he took part in a conference call Clinton had with the NY congressional delegation...Asked why the Senator told supporters Tuesday night that she needed more time to consider her future, Rangel said: “I have no clue.”

...“Basically in talking with her I had the idea that...she wasn't going to take the fight to the convention...(and)...that she was just calling her friends and supporters in order to share her views and to get our views on what should happen. And it was abundantly clear to me last night that she was going to do all that she could to make sure we have a victory in November. And since we have only one candidate for that victory in November, I had assumed she would be endorsing Obama...”
