5. I hate to say it but, I do believe John Ashcroft was the first Republican
who actually gave Bush some serious trouble in Bush's Panzer march to destroy American democracy.

6. It was spot on, wasn't it? Here's a paragraph:
"We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two," Bush said. "Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there's much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation's hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it."

9. It is frightening . . .
. . . but when it comes down to it, aren't the governing tactics of hard-right neocons pretty similar? Corporate/MIC bidding is corporate/MIC bidding, and it isn't like a spawn of an ex-Spook was going to be much different than his forebears. In fact, you knew he was gonna "kick it up a notch".

These ain't your granddad's conservatives. Or maybe they are . . .

10. They ARE your Grandad's conservatives...
It has been a LONG while since they had as much control of gov't as they did from '00 to '06 and they did what they planned to do all along.

12. Reminds me of that film about Nostradamus in the early eighties.
It ends with the fall of Soviet Union and a war in the Gulf I remember in 1992 re-watching it and getting chills.

Of course this nightmare is much more frightening.

14. "bring an end to the severe war drought"
During the 40-minute speech, Bush also promised to bring an end to the severe war drought that plagued the nation under Clinton, assuring citizens that the U.S. will engage in at least one Gulf War-level armed conflict in the next four years.

"You better believe we're going to mix it up with somebody at some point during my administration," said Bush, who plans a 250 percent boost in military spending. "Unlike my predecessor, I am fully committed to putting soldiers in battle situations. Otherwise, what is the point of even having a military?"

15. I read it when it came out
I had serious trepidation about the upcoming B*sh administration and it was hard to read the whole Onion piece and not come away with the feeling that nothing outrageous or out-of-character was said about B*sh. Especially knowing anything about him or the rest of his detestable family at all and knowing how the 2000 sElection played out; I knew the powermongers really weren't in it for the good of the country.

What I didn't know was how much worse than even satire it was going to be.

16. I likewise saw that when it first came out
and I revisit it every so often. It's probably the most accurate "prophesy" I've ever read.

Perhaps it's no wonder that all too often something that appears in the Onion is taken seriously.

22. Does the author of that article know who's gonna win the World Series?
The entire article was right-on. Unbelievable, what has befallen this country in the past
seven horrific years of a Bush administration.
