All the comments about McCain's age got me wondering...
What would happen if a nominee for president fell ill between the convention and the November election? Like, so ill he clearly couldn't continue to run for office? Before you say anything, I'm not *hoping* for this to happen. I think the man is slime but I don't wish things like that on people. I'm just curious how, or if, the election would proceed. Has this ever happened to a major candidate?

I guess I was also thinking of the ways the Republicans might try to fuck up the process since they can't win it fairly. Would they be able to postpone the election? Or do they simply have to quickly choose another candidate and hope for the best?

1. My guess would be a decision by the Pub delegates would be made
between the two most popular candidates next in line in the popular vote. Wouldn't that be Huck, Mittens, or Paul? Unless he managed to chose a very popular VP candidate. After the real job of the VP is to step in and be Prez!

2. I wonder though.
Would they claim the election wasn't fair then and that they needed more time? Could they do that?
