Can McCain avoid a Bush 3rd term?
One of the primary goals of the Cheney administration was to remove old guard moderate Republicans and make sure new ones were not elected. The party poured money into electing the right kind of Republican. The “right” kind was of course one 100 % loyal to Bush. Loyalty was more important than: understanding policy, ability to govern, and understanding of the actual function of America’s government. If McCain were to win, where would he draw his new cabinet? Most of the moderate Republicans are McCain’s age (if not older). So he draws on the younger generation of Cheney civil servants and elected officials. These are the people that believe “just a theory” is a motto for success. Where belief trumps reality. Negotiation (even with other Americans) is weakness and might should be used to force opposition to bend to your will. These are the people that don’t believe governments can work, and thus have shown to be incapable of actually making functioning civil services. Even if McCain wanted to avoid a third Bush term, he could never avoid it unless he opened most of his cabinet to independents and Democrats. But in that case... why exactly don’t I just vote Democrat and insure that’s the case. Nope McCain is doomed to be Bush III. It was planned 8 years ago by Cheney to be the case.
