WE have several court procedings currently in our city because of Operation REscue and other incidents.

Someone in our local paper praised Shelley Shannon

What a poor writer of this article! What exactly was the "bomb"? Is Tiller throwing catfish stink bait on people? If that is the case, it would be assault and battery. I am apalled at all the people posting comments, who are proabortion, and thus guilty of conspiracy to commit murder of the preborn. Aborting a third trimester baby as Tiller often does, is morally no different than killing a born baby. If Dear Shelley Shannon had only been a better shot. Sigh.

not knowing who this was, I looked at the website. It is absolutely freakish and morbid. Just where the hell did they get "pictures of aborted fetus" anyway...I think they are all fake.

then they go on to protest BIRTH CONTROL and BOY SCOUTS

they praise those that will risk their life to kill abortion doctors

2. What is it with fundies and those square glasses?
Men and women! Square with the double-nosepiece and about an inch of glass!

(And yes, they're insane. If they'd stand out there and hand out condoms or offer to adopt the kids, I could understand that, but seriously. And it says on one of the pages they steal from the trash, so maybe that's where they get the pictures?)

5. I simply don't get how one can be against abortion AND contraception.
Attention fundies: Contraception PREVENTS Abortion.

Duh.

11. It's actually very simple...
the Catholic doctrine of Seamless Tapestry of Life says that life begins at conception and life must not be taken without good reason. Seamless Tapestry also speaks against the death penalty and war.

Somewhere in all that is a further Catholic teaching that "potential" life is not to be tampered with either. That means no condoms, pullouts, pills, or whatever to prevent the natural order of reproduction.

Now, one may disagree with all that, but it is consistant from a Catholic point of view.

Fundie Protestants who get on the abortion bandwagon, however, are a far different breed. They have no real intellectual, or even doctrinal, underpinnings for their beliefs, just, well, belief. Which makes them a lot scarier. Catholics, we can deal with at some level, since there is a point where we can find agreement, or at least rational and polite disagreement. With the Fundies, however, there is rarely any discussion.

14. The thing about that is...
it's completely, wildly unrealistic to expect people to never "waste" any sperm. Virtually every man, Catholic or not, masturbates, and that's no different from this perspective. It may be consistent, but it is still friggin' insane. Aside from which, it would seem to me, if I were of that persuasion, that abortion would still be "worse" than wasting some ejaculate, of which, of course, there's always more.

15. Maturbation is also frowned upon, but is not seen as...
terribly different from nocturnal emissions.

More important is their division between mortal and venal sins-- jerking off, and even contraception, may be venal and forgiven in confession with a few Hail Marys, but abortion is a mortal sin, and best not done.

6. there is a sign on I-35 somewhere in Kansas that claims Wichita is the abortion
capitol of the world.

I saw lots of anti abortion advertising all over the place driving up that interstate through Kansas. Very creepy

7. I looked at some of those pictures
I've been an OB/GYN nurse for over 30 years, and they're not fakes, but they're horrendously misleading. At least two of those kids died of birth defects, one looks to have died of an massive infection, and several more were obviously term still-births. They do not represent the vast majority of abortions, or even a sizable minority. I suspect they got those pictures from autopsy photos, not abortion clinics.

And as for being against contraception, that's so insane I don't where to begin.

9. Not defending them, but it is consistent...kinda
Obviously birth control is a broad category and not a specific "thing". In a sense, abortion is just one form of birth control. Some, like condoms, sponges/foams, and diaphrams actually prevent contraception. Others, like IUDs and the pill don't necessarily prevent contraception, but instead impede or prevent the fertilized egg from implanting/growing--to a right-to-lifer who believes the second a sperm and egg meet you have a baby--there is no logical difference between those methods and abortion.

Even putting that aside, it isn't strictly true from a logics standpoint that contraception prevents abortion. The Catholic church is wrong (in my opinion) but they are at least consistent--they are against sex as a recreation-only exercise.

10. abortion is the termination of a pregnancy, not a form of birth control.
The AMA defines the beginning of a pregnancy to be when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. A fertilized egg is not a person.

And, quite honestly, I'm certain that contraception DOES prevent abortion because if one never becomes pregnant, one does not have an abortion.

12. every sperm is sacred...

Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.
