9. A couple of observations: The Bush graph is dated 2005...
Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 12:02 PM by Richardo
Also the bar is progressively lowered: compare 'remove from office' for Nixon; 'be impeached' for Clinton; and 'Congress should consider impeachment' for Bush. The last is a much lower bar than the first, and therefore easier to support.

It would be interesting to see how public sentiment has changed from three years ago, with the greater knowledge of administration malfeasance, coupled with it being an election year and Bush's imminent departure.

Also, the question should be the same 'full-monty' as Nixon's: "Should he be removed from office?".

10. yep. The Bush v. Clinton comparison was done by the Wall Street Journal. I added Nixon
and with pollsters, it's hard to find apples to apples comparisons since biases or the state of the debate shapes the questions they ask.

19. Key Fact -- Percent Of Dems Responding "No"
This is a number that has ranged from 20-50 percent. These are people who are presumedly "in agreement" with the "DC leadership's" ongoing campaign to keep impeachment "off the table."

Should DC-Dems choose to stop being the regime's firewall against accountability, this number would change dramatically. The same is true, albeit to a lesser extent, for independents.

It's not unreasonable to expect 70+% support for an impeachment ACTION on a specific undisputed charge like torture, illegal spying, or terrorizing the nation with lies about "Mushroom Clouds!"

Moreover, there is NO evidence that any "backlash" would occur. That claim is pure beltway blather.

20. Those are very different questions
The Nixon question asked whether he should be removed from office. The Clinton question ask whether Clinton should be impeached if he lied about his sexual relationship with Lewinsky (notably, it doesn't say, for example, should Clinton be impeached if he lied under oath about his relatinship with Lewinsky). And the Bush example only asks whether, if Bush lied (again, not specifying the circumstances) about the reasons for the war, should congress "consider" impeachment. Any direct comparison of the results of the polls is therefore of limited utility.

For the record, my answer to those questions, would be as follows:

Nixon question: yes
Clinton question: no
Bush question: yes (but with the caveat that "consider" is a very vague and broad term)
