Laura Ingraham off the air
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 10:04 AM by kpete
Popular radio talk show host Laura Ingraham has been taken off the air with no explanation.

Laura's show is one of the top five most popular talk radio shows in the nation. Laura is a solid conservative voice on the air.

She is gone with no explanation. All anyone knows is that it is not her choice.

If radio networks can yank a conservative voice who is that popular, they can do it to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity or anyone else.

Liberals are again agitating to shut down conservative talk radio. They have been pushing "diversity" regulations through the FCC to do just that. Taking out Laura Ingraham is just a step along the way toward shutting down conservative talk radio totally.

..........

Sincerely yours,

Erick Erickson

7. Where's Erickson's Proof That Liberals Did It?
First of all, little Erick, the 5th most popular talk show means that about 0.08% of the U.S. population listens. Simple economics would dictate that you could put on an automated music program and would have equal listnership with lower costs.

But, for all their bluster, the "red staters" really know almost nothing about business.

8. Didn't laura indulge in some sort of voter suppression while
on the air. IIRC, she was agitating listeners to call and jam phone lines? First of all, that to me is a crime, which should have been investigated, and second of all, since her venom is always directed at the Dems, why wouldn't our side be fighting to get her removed. Red State is upset because we are fighting back, and they can't take it.

32. Yes, she did
I don't have a link, but I remember during the last GE, she encouraged her brain-dead listeners to call up the voter helpline and jam the phones. If that is not a crime, it should be; same as Limburger telling his dittoheads to cause a riot during the Dem Convention.

40. Report Was She Was Headed To Faux
This from ThinkProgress:

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/13/laura-ingraham-tells-bill-oreilly-shes-been-forced-off-the-air/

On Tuesday, Fox News announced it will include right-wing radio host Laura Ingraham in “a rotating series of personalities” to host its 5:00 pm hour. Ingraham has more time to devote to TV, after apparently being forced off her radio show, at least temprorarily. Last week, she told fans on her website her absence from her radio show “is not of my choosing,” and gave further detail to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly last night:

This is interesting indeed. Ingraham was syndicated and paid by Salem Media...a rabid right wing hate talk purveyor. The big red flag points to money. Salem has been hitting hard times lately and may be trying to hardball Ingraham into a new, cheaper deal. Ratings of her show and of Salem stations in general have been abysmal and the company overpaid for properties that depreciate further by the day.

I can't see Ingraham being yanked for anything she says...but I did recall she was a pretty solid Romney supporter at one point and took some wicked shots at Gramps.

As always...stay tuned.

42. The fairness doctrine is not about...
... shutting Limpballs and Hannity down, it's about letting the other side be easily heard. "Heard" means in national syndication. So when you go to some small town in Kansas, you can just as easily hear progressive talk radio as you can the right wing drivel.

44. Sigh... you'd think having faced that bout with cancer would have made her a better person.
But unfortunately, she returned to the airwaves as every bit as bad a snot-nosed, snark-assed, mean-spirited female putz as ever.

Not sure what's going on here. Here's a bit of what the website www.laradio.com had to say a few days ago:

(snip)

Hannity’s Potential Syndication Move
May Have Domino Effect

(June 11, 2008) Earlier this year, Charlie Rahilly, president of Premiere Radio Networks, was seen having lunch with Farid Suleman, president/ceo of Citadel Broadcasting. The luncheon was reportedly instigated by Suleman. Farid was having money woes. Citadel’s loss of over $850 million in one quarter hadn’t been announced yet. Since Citadel purchased ABC Radio, Farid has had his financial challenges. His primary syndicated talk show host is Sean Hannity, whose contract was up for renewal on June 13, 2008. Suleman was having trouble paying what Hannity wanted in a new deal, a raise from $5 million a year to something closer to Rush Limbaugh’s annual salary of $30 million plus a signing bonus. The luncheon was to discuss a possible partnership between Citadel and Premiere to syndicate Hannity. Well apparently the partnership conversations are done. Look for an announcement between now and Friday that Hannity is ending his association with his ABC syndicator and will be part of a three-way deal, which may include the ABC Radio Networks.

If all of this comes down in the next 48 hours, you might think that the listener will be unaffected and that Sean will continue at KABC in his noon – 3 p.m. slot. Not so fast. Insiders say there is a memo from Farid instructing all Citadel stations to make other arrangements if the company loses syndication rights to Hannity. If the three-way deal, or some variation of it, becomes reality, his show on KABC and other Citadel stations will be unaffected. If the deal falls through there are various scenarios for KABC including Al Rantel moving to Hannity's slot and re-hiring Mr. KABC for early evening. Or maybe an outsider?

With all of this behind the scenes turmoil, is Laura Ingraham (l) attempting to take advantage of the syndication shuffle? Laura’s syndicated show is heard in morning drive at KRLA (870 AM), at least it was until last week. She has apparently disappeared from the conservative talk station. Last weekend, Laura was at a radio industry function, the “2008 New Media Seminar,” picking up the “Judy Jarvis Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions by a Woman to Talk Radio” award. She thanked Talk Radio Network, her syndicator, and the boss Mark Masters, “…for believing in my radio vision five years ago when few others did.” Laura posted a notice to her listeners, but it has since been taken down: “Due to contractual obligations, for the present time I am unable to reveal why I am not currently hosting The Laura Ingraham Show. Rest assured, this absence is not of my choosing, nor is it health or family-related. I am ready, willing and eager to continue the conversation we started seven years ago about politics and the culture. (Heck, if cancer couldn’t keep me off the airwaves for long, nothing will.)" Meanwhile, Laura has stepped up her tv appearances, so is she angling for a Cable TV show? The Fox News Channel will utilize a rotating series of hosts on a rotating basis, including Laura. She will be auditioning on Fox TV beginning Monday afternoon. Or will she go with another radio syndicator? Or is she on stand-by to replace Sean Hannity at all the Citadel stations? Did TRN get upset with Laura when they heard she was secretly negotiating with Citadel-ABC? Or was she? Tammy Bruce was filling in for Laura earlier this week. This morning Doug Urbanski was the fill-in host. KRLA promo says: "Laura will be back soon."

Late last night, the RadioEqualizer blog is reporting that Sean Hannity's radio show will be taken over by a unique, three-way partnership that includes current syndicator ABC Radio Networks, Clear Channel's Premiere Radio Networks division and Hannity himself. “As part of this highly unusual deal, Hannity will remain on Citadel- ABC Radio's stations, a development that probably brings a sigh of relief to program directors across the country,” according to Brian Maloney, writer of the RadioEqualizer blog. Citadel shares closed at $1.60 yesterday, down three cents.

You have to subscribe to this one - www.laradio.com, but if you're at all interested in Los Angeles radio people or events or news, this is the site of record. Highly recommended by calimary.
