Skinner, can we go ahead and shut 'er down for maintenance right now
instead of tomorrow night? The "Russert was biased" threads are making me question some of the DU'ers here. A family just lost a dad right now and there are some who are just sort of "gravedancing".

Maybe we could use the break.

4. It always happens here
Someone managed to say nasty things about Beverly Sills when she died.

The internet is a big place. You're always going to have a few crackpots.

5. If nothing else
Russert was a believer in the American Constitution - let the trolls say what they will, they can't really make a difference. Let freedom of speech reign in his memory.

8. between the joy at Russert's death
and the bullshit about the poor lady that thanked god there weren't more boyscouts killed in the tornado i am beginning to think my account might get lost in the 'maintenance cycle'...this is absurd and if there was any reason for someone to think the people on the left of the aisle harbored ill will toward people they disagree with...well, these types of threads are reason enough...

9. so far it seems pretty tame
compared to what happened when Gerald Ford and Reggie White died. Saying "Russert was biased" is not even close to saying "I am happy he's dead." It's a terrible thing to contradict "Russert was great" comments?

But you have to take the good with the bad.

12. Most DU'ers (especially the regulars) are sensitive and not gravedancing
I think its the usual bout of trolls that come by every so often.

and I don't think this is the time or place to express
anything but condolences.

15. Some people have terrible manners, they're not all trolls.
They are opinionated and thoughtless and don't understand that those of us who appreciate what good he did do want to remember him with a bit of class.

17. Is it lack of manners? I don't know. But now is the time to pay our
respects and not drag politics into it. Whether you
liked or disliked him is irrelevant-- I see no percentage
in putting down a man who, by all accounts, was a decent
and caring human being.

I like to see evidence of what Lincoln termed, "the better
angels of our nature."

He will be missed.

16. Agreed. Between the "Russert was a neocon tool" threads, and the "Bush killed Russert" thread,
this place is a dump.
