I first came to like Russert through the IMUS MSNBC morning show |
|
Ok, no flame fest - we've been down this road before. Now is not the time -
Imus had Russert on frequently, and Russert would often be quite funny and unscripted. During the football season he would bemoan the record of his beloved Bills. Imus would often slap him around and Russert would give as good as he would get. He had a sharp mind and a quick wit. Typical, New Yorker. (It's applies for the entire state).
Imus was a BIG fan of Russert's "BIG RUSS" book, and he talked about it endlessly for a few months. Russert was quite fond of Wyatt Imus who was like 3 or 4 back then, just a little guy, and he sent the kid all kinds of books and cowboy stuff which he adored as most little kids would. I'm thinking of that kid right now who's like what 8 or 9 now? Little kids don't let go of their hero's easily.
Russert was a lot of things, and a lot of things he was, was things that we didn't like, but we don't like a lot of shit here. Kind of like someone else we know.
Whenever Russert was on the IMUS show, I hit the record button because I knew if nothing else it would be funny. Same thing with Matthews. IMUS would do what you don't see on TV anymore, he would get these guys to loosen up, and say shit they would not normally say. I don't give a shit what anybody says - I'd trade IMUS in the morning ANY day then have to suffer through Morning Joe. I'm thinking I would have liked to see Rachel Maddow on his show, just to see THAT interaction.
But IMUS was stupid, and he was racist, and now all that stuff you ain't going to see anywhere else, like Russert calling him a 63 year old drag queen at 6:45 in the morning is gone. Russert was right there for pure unscripted humor. I miss that. I'll miss him. And Tim, I'm sorry for calling you Mr. Potato Head.
You made me laugh and for a Irish guy, that's all you need for me to say, I liked you dude.

1. That's how I first became aware of him, too - |

and really REALLY liked him a lot. He had no love lost for Bushco, either.

Couldn't much stomach Imus some days. Of course there are days I want Scarborough to shut up as well.
And I enjoyed him on primary nights.
He made me nuts with his gotcha's on MTP sometimes - to me he always seemed harder on the Dems or he'd let slide some lie by a Repuke, but still MTP was the only Sunday show I watched since I'm boycotting ABC over their debate performance against Obama.
One memory I have of Russert was that awful election night of 2000 with Russert and his white board on in to the early morning. Not Russert's fault of course but the damn Bushes and their cronies who stole that election from Gore.
The other awful memory was Russert getting Lieberman to just cave completely on the military vote during the recount!

ticked off a lot of people, but he's also done a lot of good. He's an old curmudgeon with a mouth that has gotten him in trouble often, but his heart is huge. :hi:

That was the last thing my ex-girlfriend told me on the phone on her way to SFO.
She and Mo are great friends.

...and with 2 African Americans who have a lot of input into the show. It's better than it was, and the guests he has on you just can't beat. He has taken seriously his promise to do more justice to race issues.

10. Imus was the only one in the MSM to repeatedly call Cheney a war criminal. |
