Why is the emphasis always on "Gay" and hardly ever on "People"?
Many people were able to get married in California starting tonight.

Which is a newsworthy event.

8. Well, FAUX is probably saying "the homosexuals" |
|
And when Pat Robertson has a stroke on tomorrow morning's 700 Club, he'll probably say "the godless Sodomites".

4. Those people could have gotten married yesterday too |

Just not to other gay people.
Hence, the emphasis on "gay."

5. I'm 57 and can remember back when the word "gay" |
|
was not yet used, except when folks like my mom would confess that a few cocktails made her feel gay. I don't believe this will become a wedge issue this election. People are maturing. When the subject of gay marriages in Cal. came up a work today, even the righties said they no longer cared. It seems to me sometimes that the only people who get riled are the ones who are afraid of their own sexuality

7. I was pretty cheerful on my wedding day too, LOL, & I wish the newlyweds every happiness |
|
Mr. H and I both actually get kinda teary-eyed at the prospect of so much hopeful happiness for other people. I personally know at least one set of parents that are going to be overjoyed at the prospect of their son getting married to his partner.

12. I agree with your point. It's the subtle but obvious reality behind the headline. |
|
Yes, it was only gay people who couldn't get married yesterday... but that's only because the predicate came before the substantive. It's crucial to our victory that substantive come before predicate. It's also why we're winning. Not everyone can relate to gay, but everyone is capable of grasping the "people" aspect. That "person" reminds me of my grandmother, brother, neighbor, etc (i.e. reminds me of someone whom I believe to be a "person".

14. Because the word has 'negative' contentations... |
|
for some people. 'Gay', is like an evil that wants to destroy the known world to those morons. When some one says "I think he is Gay" it is said with a "Oh, really?" Like, being Gay makes up your entire being.
The term Homosexual has the same effect on people, the stupid and uneducated rethug people. Those fuckwads would be pleased if it was still 1950.
