It's just so thrilling: California, you rock. |

I honestly believe that CA's recognition of marriage for all, marks the beginning of the end for the anti-gay marriage forces. Other states will follow.
More people (by far) now support either gay marriage or civil unions than oppose legal recognition for gay couple. This is a sea change from just a few short years ago. And those folks who support civil unions but not gay marriage? The majority of them will get on board with gay marriage- although it will probably take a few more years.
People are beginning to understand- finally- that gay couples in a marriage pose absolutely no threat to straight marriages. That's not going to suddenly reverse.
It's just a huge moment. For all of us, gay or straight.

And I think that California's anti-gay marriage amendment will be defeated. And I have even some hopes that Florida's anti-gay marriage ban will also be defeated (though that's not a sure thing)
The opponents are on the losing side here. People are beginning to see that the more people who want to get married are allowed to do so, legally, the more the institution of marriage is strengthened.
It is a huge, watershed moment right now. As you said, for gay and straight people. And our society will be the better for it.
