What if Pelosi is named in a suit alleging her complicity in war crimes? |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 06:09 PM by burythehatchet
Couldn't that remove her prerogative to take impeachment off the table?
on edit - I use "suit" in a generic sense, to include judiciary committee action, and so on.

1. Do you understand why impeachment is off the table? |
|
1) It's an election year 2) they don't have the votes
If we can get through this election, we might have the votes.

3. If they aren't removed from office soon, |
|
Bush will use the remaining months he has in office to start a war in Iran, pardon all his cronies who are now legally in hot water for criminal acts and make a lot of the fascist things he started permanent by using his executive powers. We may not have a country that will accept the results of this election by then, but a dictatorship.

5. It Would Be Great To Force The Rethugs To Support A Hated President |
|
If they support Bush, they dig their hole deeper. More likely, they'll (finally) figure out that tossing Bush is their best bet to keep from becoming an irrelevant remnant in November - just as happened with Nixon.
It's the Democrats who want to keep Bush in - he's a perpetual Christmas, a new political present under the tree almost every day. But he is a Constitution-trashing war criminal with the ability to launch a nuclear strike, so impeachment is an obligation.

6. I understand that argument. I'm not a purist but I do firmly believe that these |

crimes are a continuation of the many crimes of the past. The criminal enterprise has to be stopped; they are close to assuming complete dictatorial power. Bookmark this post and then look it up on the date that should be inauguration day, and let me know if they leave office.

8. Last year wasn't an election year. |
|
And we DO have the votes for impeachment. We're lacking in the Senate for conviction.

11. After 7 years of seeing the Constitution |
|
publicly spat on and this regime leaning closer and closer to fascism I don't give a shit if we don't have the votes. If for no other reason than History and Posterity it would be nice to make the attempt, quixotic or even doomed as it may be. Let History say, and our children and grandchildren know, that at least someone attempted to formally stand up to this vile bunch of thugs, even if the attempt failed. And if Bush bombs Iran within days of the election, or there's another big, domestic terror attack we may not "get through this election" as there may not be one.

14. I'd rather make the attempt when we might actually be able to hold someone accountable. |
|
I don't like what has happened any more than anyone else here or that I know of. But the fact remains that given the tone and attitude set by the Bush administration, we could be at risk of losing not only the White House, but several seats that can and will help to not only shore up public opinion and change the tone, but also give us the necessary votes to at least try. We only gained control in 2006, and with Lieberman being our control seat - it's just not something to risk - just yet that is. After the election, I hope to god we're able to fry the shit out of them all.

7. My husband thinks they have something on her & that's why she's capitulated on draining the swamp. |
|
I think they told her that a very well financed dem will challenge her if she doesn't play nice. Pelosi would rather be second in line at the trough than not in line at all.

She actually seems to be visibly sweating every time she tries to explain her reasons and she's not very convincing because I don't think she has even convinced herself.
