Bush Says Dems to Blame for High Gas Prices
Reverses Policy, Along With McCain, on Off-Shore Drilling
By Jennifer Duck

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2008

As the presidential election revs into high gear, President Bush drilled the "Democratic-controlled Congress" for opposing White House energy policies, which he said has resulted in the rise of "gas prices to record levels."

"If Congressional leaders leave for the Fourth of July recess without taking action, they will need to explain why $4-a-gallon gasoline is not enough incentive for them to act. And Americans will rightly ask how high oil -- how high gas prices have to rise before the Democratic-controlled Congress will do something about it," Bush said in the Rose Garden.

<snip>

Bush and McCain in Energy Embrace

By proposing the policy reversal, Bush in turn, aligned himself with Sen. John McCain, the all but certain Republican nominee, who also changed his tune on offshore drilling earlier this week as gas prices jumped above $4.00 a gallon.

"I believe it is time for the federal government to lift these restrictions and to put our own reserves to use," McCain told a crowd Tuesday in Houston before the president made his announcement today.

<snip>

McCain, who strikes an awkward balance of distancing himself from the unpopular president both physically and on policy matters, while trying not to alienate those Republicans loyal to the president, did not seem to welcome the White House energy symmetry, and resisted the "third-term Bush" claims from his Democratic opponent Sen. Barack Obama.

5. Yeah they do
My Right wing father does. In his mind the dem takevoer in 2006 and the gas prices are connected at the hip.

But he also believes Obama is the antichrist, and that Bush being in the Champagne squad in Texas was not an attempt to get him out of Vietnam.

But people like him make up about 20% of the electorate. But they'll never vote dem anyway, so who cares.

I think the more sane 80% of the public will see through this shit. I hope so.

getting anything you want while never having to earn anything you have, and most of all, blaming everyone else for your shortcomings and NEVER having to take responsibility for anything. Just once I'd like to see this disgusting piece of shit take responsibility for something.

I can honestly say, without a doubt, I have never hated, loathed, despised or been more disgusted by any human being in my life time. I hate this little bastard with every fiber of my being.

13. watch this video. Call the media, CAll your Congress persons
Call your Reps and ask them about the ENRON LOOPHOLE
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

You have to watch this clip from Keith Olbermann on McCain Connection to the Enron Loophole.

You have to help stop us from being ripped off with Gas prices.

Call you your reps and ask them questions about this. Call all the local News stations and radio talk shows and ask them questions about the Enron Loophole.

the oil industry and the banks who are profiting for speculating are Lobbying hard with those in Congress and playing ad after ad on TV and Radio to drill.

WE are the only ones who can stop this.

14. Then why was I paying over $3.30 a gal in April 2006 when republicans
Edited on Thu Jun-19-08 01:11 AM by GreenTea
had total control http://thetension.blogspot.com/2006/04/images-gas-pains-prices-top-4-gallon.html and gas was at $1.46 a gal. when Bush took office with six yeas of republican rule and it's steadily gotten higher....Now two years later it's a dollar more a gal and going higher.
http://www.democraticstuff.com/Bush-Took-Office-Gas-was-1-46-Anti-Bush-Button-p/bt15241.htm

Because it's still, BushCo Inc. & his oil buddies manipulating for political purposes & profits.

Deregulation, extorting & gouging us at the pumps to force us to open our national lands and coastlines for tax breaks & incentives for big oil and to increase the oil companies huge profits quarter after quarter since Bush has been in office.

This has all been long planned by Bush & the republicans to blame the democrats and reap in profits to boot. While giving tax breaks to oil companies and excluding alternative energy from any. As the republicans in the Senate just did, it needed 60% for alternative energy tax breaks to pass and a sure Bush veto if it didn't....while the oil companies retained their tax breaks. Thank the republicans....

Raise gas prices so high, they can now blame the Dems!

15. So Poppy Bush and Jeb are Democrats?
I don't understand why Democrats are so silent in the face of these accusations. I would have thought that the party leadership would have been all over the airwaves over this, not only pointing out that the Iraq war, the falling dollar and speculation are also to blame, that the oil companies aren't opening new refineries, that their current refineries aren't running anywhere near capacity, that they're sitting on oil leases they aren't exploiting, and that even if all these new drilling sites were developed it would only result in a few cents difference in about 5 or 10 years from now.

Where are the Democrats?
