American Rainbow Rapid Response: MISSISSIPPI RIVER UPDATE
PLEASE FORWARD TO YOUR CONTACTS & SEND ANY REPLIES TO R.PROXY@HOTMAIL.COM

JUNE 19 se:
WOWIE KAZOWIE ! GOOD NEWS ! MIXED NEWS ! SOME NOT SO GREAT NEWS !

Best news first : Thru the grace of our umbrella partner Conscious Alliance and the fine people at Whole Foods , ARRR has secured a donation of what amounts to millions of dollars worth of bulk and frozen food . This is very good news indeed , given the present situation .

More good news : Our lovely partners at Hearts With Hands have agreed to take on the task of distribution.

ARRR's next step will be to announce our available resources to FEMA and they will direct our efforts throughout the region as needed .

< Once again , this is in line with the protocol , and command structure , to which ARRR has accepted and signed onto . Working within and being integrated into this framework is the practical reality of receiving co-operartion in the delivery of aid to those in disaster stricken areas . >

Mixed news : The more levees that breach up in the northern rural farmland portions of the Mississippi may lessen the chance of massive , massive flooding in the more densely populated delta down south . Another no win , no win situation , with plenty of pain to go around .

Not so good news : The County Emergency Manager from the Kickapoo Valley has reported that far fewer citizens are coming in and registering their damage , than would be expected . Neither are they coming and taking part in the assistance that is available .

After suffering two major floods inside a year , this could indicate that a lot of people are experiencing serious emotional distress as a result of their grim predicament . Inability to cope is a common and serious effect of trauma resulting from disaster . That is why we are still asking for local volunteers to join in the door to door campaign to bring food and gifts to the people of Viola , and invite them to reconnect with their fellow townspeople , at the swinging new chow hall in town . The chow halls themselves could still use some servers .

Correction : In an earlier post I stated the hippie parade was to announce the opening of the Gays Mills chow hall . The Gays Mills chow hall has been serving . The hippie parade in Viola is announcing the opening of the new chow hall in Viola . Oh, and the hippie parade is happening tomorrow ( Thur .) not today (Wed) . so it's not too late .

We are looking for commitments of resources and volunteers .

1. In the flooding last summer in Wisconsin in the Kickapoo valley and other areas,
the deadline for receiving help was extended a couple of times so everybody who needed help could get it. There are people in these areas who are just burnt out because they have not recovered from the flooding 10 months ago. I am sure that there are people who have decided that enough is enough and they will not go through this again. I know they are discussing moving the business area of Gays Mills to higher ground much as was done in nearby Soldiers Grove after the flood in 1978 and it became the nation's first solar village.

2. not as much about the Mississippi river as about the Kickapoo
I don't think the flooding in Wisconsin affected as many people as in Iowa although I think there was some damage. I kinda thought Gays Mills was built on a hill. I remember doing a hellacious amount of climbing when I bicycled over there. But I see it is built around the Kickapoo river, so it must be in a valley. At least there is plenty of much higher ground to build on.

3. Beautiful, but don't involve FEMA!
Door to door sounds like the best idea.
