LTTE- Push Congress on impeachment
http://www.timesargus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080619/OPINION02/806190310/1022/OPINION02

Perhaps I overlooked it, but I have been looking fairly diligently for the news that last Monday night, Representative Kucinich introduced Articles for Impeachment against President Bush. So much for the right–wing notion of the "liberal press." You'd think that news like that would make the front page. However, similar to news from Iraq, or worse yet, photos from Iraq, this information is minimized or disavowed altogether.

For those of us who think that public officials, including the President, should be held accountable to the laws of the land, I encourage you to show your support for the Articles of Impeachment by calling our congressman, Peter Welch. This first step does not mean that impeachment is imposed, but it is the final way that a wary public can force a secretive administration to be open to public scrutiny and be held accountable for any wrong doings.

From the outlandish outing of a secret CIA agent for political revenge, to the illegal wiretapping of U.S. citizens in violation of written laws, this administration has much to answer to. From Paul O'Neil's revelation that Iraq was a topic of discussion at the very first cabinet meeting, to the Washington Post's claim that Cheney's meeting with energy executives included a parceled-up map of Iraq, to Scott McClellan's statement that this administration OK'd the outing of Valerie Plame, these are all abuses of power as reported by conservative insiders.

I fear that if we don't hold the present administration to account, all future officials will be held to an ever descending bar. The easy way out is just to wait for the next administration, but if we don't act now, precedent will regrettably be set. It really is our public right to know, and our constitutional duty to protect, that I encourage you to call Rep. Welch and/or visit www.Wexlerwantshearings.com to show your support for public accountability and Rep. Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment.
