Nancy Pelosi's twisted spin on surveillance legislation
President Bush Urges Quick Passage of Wiretapping Bill
By Dan Eggen, Paul Kane and William Branigin

President Bush today lauded Congress for reaching agreement on surveillance legislation that could shield telecommunications companies from privacy lawsuits and urged quick passage of the bill, saying it was vital to help thwart new terrorist attacks.

<<snip>>

House and Senate leaders agreed yesterday on the surveillance legislation, handing Bush one of the last major legislative victories he is likely to achieve.

The agreement extends the government's ability to eavesdrop on espionage and terrorism suspects while effectively providing a legal escape hatch for AT&T, Verizon Communications and other telecom firms. They face more than 40 lawsuits that allege they violated customers' privacy rights by helping the government conduct a warrantless spying program after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

<<snip>>

Leading Democrats acknowledged that the surveillance legislation is not their preferred approach, but they said their refusal in February to pass a version supported by the Bush administration paved the way for victories on other legislation, such as the war funding bill.

"When they saw that we were unified in sending that bill rather than falling for their scare tactics, I think it sent them a message," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). "So our leverage was increased because of our Democratic unity in both cases."

1. I see. By bending over, offering a choice of butter, K-Y, olive oil, or Crisco
we show how strong the democrats in congress have become. I get it. I really get it.

10. I am very glad...
that you DO get it. The problem is not enough people do, especially her colleagues in the House, they ALL must think that we are stupid. Her logic is so transparent, how else can she/they think we would fall for that line of crap?

6. So, what message are they getting now that she's falling for their scare tactics?
And if unity was working so well, why abandon it? She's talking out of her ass here. I don't know who's the bigger idiot, Nancy or Harry Reid.

7. Lewis Black on Bipartisanship in Congress
"When I talk about Congress...I'm talking about Democrats and Republicans...working together. And the only thing other dumber than a Democrat or a Republican is when these pricks work TOGETHER. Congress is comprised of two parties.

There's the Republicans, a party of bad ideas; and then there's the Democrats, a party of no ideas. The way bipartisan legislation works is this. The Republican stands up and says 'I've got a really BAD IDEA!'. The Democrat then stands up and says, 'And I can make it SHITTIER.'"

8. Strange what the Democrats in Congress view as "victories" today.
The bar has indeed been moved quite low.

Low enough that only a slug could pass under it, which seems to work well for the Congressional Democrats. They are a disgraceful bunch, and I am very unhappy with them. They are not doing their jobs, and they expect to get re-elected.

I will only donate to individual candidates from this point forward, as I have been doing for over a year. No more blank checks for the Democrats, I will only support the candidates who do what they should be doing.

24. I remember...
when, because of redistricting, we got stuck with an incumbent thug for our representative. It seemed like he was going to be there forever, when he was defeated by a Dem in the last midterm. Well, the Dem turned out to be not much better, I live in one of the reddest parts of a blue state, (PA) so I don't know whether to be happy or pissed. So, like you, I will be careful where my money (the little I have) goes.

11. What a pile of crap
"By standing tough on protecting the constitution we showed them that we had a tiny little bit of spine. Enough to do the bare minimum required by our oath of office anyways. Well until they reached our price tag. Everyone has a price you know. If we'd caved back then I wouldn't be getting nearly as much money from the Telecoms!"

12. Nancy is speaking now. What a two-faced, insincere person.
She is irresponsibly focused on pleasing other people. She does not focus on doing what is right. This woman has no integrity. She is, on top of that, gullible, naive and stupid. She can barely read the statement in front of her. What a shameful choice for speaker. She is a follower, not a leader.

Does she have a law degree? I seriously doubt that she has read the bill. She has just voted for it without reading it I am sure.
