|
She just admitted that she's overruling the voters of her district because of her own judgment that this is "an improvement" over the prior FISA law ... An "improve- ment" by WHOSE STANDARDS, JANE? Do you think your constituents are BETTER SERVED by increased surveillance? Or is this bill BETTER FOR YOU because YOU served as the Intelligence Committee ranking member during the time when some of this crap went down? WHOSE INTERESTS ARE YOU SERVING????

I told Difi if she votes for it, I'll support someone to run against her in the primary next time she has to run. I'll be looking at her vote. Same with Boxer and Barbara Lee (although, I know Lee will do the right thing.)

11. That will not survive contact with SCOTUS. |
|
1) Congress is overstepping their authority by trying to grant a Pardon. Sorry only the President can do that.
2) It's an Ex Post Facto Law. That's a Constitutional no no.

I think an explanation of that idea have its own thread.
You seem to understand it, would you please start a separate thread to explain it?

23. It's worthy of a reply. Not an entire thread. It's latin and it simply means "after the fact." |
|
For the wire tapping to be legal. The law allowing it must be passed before the fact(wire tapping)occurs. You can't do the wire tapping then pass a law after the fact legalizing it. This ensures that you are tried for crimes by the laws at the time you commited the crime.
Now the application of this simple constitutional concept.......well never mind a thread. That could easily fill an entire board. I'll toss one out here. The use of DNA as evidence in cold cases. If you commited a crime before the law allowing DNA to be used as evidence. Then DNA cannot be used as evidence in a trial against you for that crime. It would be an Ex Post Facto application of the laws allowing DNA to be used as evidence. One of the problems authoratarians will immediately have with this is that it would allow someone you know to be guilty to go free. What authoritarians consistently fail to realize about the Constitution. Is that in writting the Document. The framers primary concern was in preserving freedom. Not punishing every last infraction of law to the nth degree. In a court system that would make the fire and brimstone of Judgement Day look like a liberal love fest.

21. The problem with our system is readily evident in her statement - Democracy is dieing. |
|
Just because something is "better" than what we had before doesn't mean its the best action for this country.
She obviously has forgotten that she is elected to represent the people, not special interests. She is ignoring who she works for and silencing their voice. Democracy is failing and we are watching it die a slow death.

Here is the DLC playbook:
If the country elects Republicans, then we must vote with the Republicans so we don't lose our seats. If the country elects Democrats, then we must vote Republican or we will lose our seats.
No matter what, the DLC responds to Republicans and conservatives. That is all they know how to do. The left and regular people do even enter the equation.
This is why we must get rid of them.....with them in the party, it does not matter who bangs the gavel. Republicans will still be in charge.
