Microsoft Zune Vs. Apple IPod
Which is the better device? I know that the Zune has a bigger screen than the IPOD, but does the Zune as good or better than the IPOD?

1. It's really going to be personal preference. I've had both and I like the Zune better.
I am not a fan of the bloated iTunes software and I also like the controls and screen on my Zune better. I also got a lot more bang for my buck with the Zune. The support has been far better with MS in my experience as well.

I promise there are opposing opinions to follow shortly.

2. Check out this page. Cnet is pretty good with their reviews.

The Apple review was written before Apple rolled out MobileMe.

The Archos looks good too.

3. Never used a Zune
so I can't say but I am perfectly happy with my IPod. The screen is a bit small for video but all things considered it doesn't look too bad.

DRM is a killer.

10. I can't use a Zune, cause of my Mac, but I love my iPod.
I heard the Zune is pretty good, but will limit your purchases to a number of plays, then drop off of your computer. Whichever you choose, if your like me, it's the most useful and worth it "useless consumerist crap" you'll ever use every day.:headbang:

Go to NovaM radio and sign up for the podcasting when you get one.

There's more speaker sets, and A/V receiver docks for iPod than Zune, as well, as Mazda, BMW, and a few other car makes are installing iPod stereos now.:hi:

11. I got my gf a Sandisk Sansa e280
The 8GB player is inexpensive, runs rather smoothly and has a lot of features (MP3s, Videos, Pictures, FM Tuner with Recorder and Voice Recorder).

You can find them new on Amazon for $99 or refurbed for $60-70 on sites like ecost.com.

12. I'd suggest looking at competitor products.
I use a Cowan MP3 player because it has better sound quality and more features for the money.

13. These are the features I look for in an MP3 player
1. Hopefully it directly connects to PC, or connects via a cable for drag n drop file management thru Windows Explorer. I don't want to mess with any kind of extra software.
2. Ability to delete files from the player itself when not connected to computer
3. I don't care about radio or video on an MP3 player
4. Must play .mp3 files without needing any kind of conversion
5. No DRM involved
6. Simple power management thru a normal type of battery would be preferable
7. I don't care about how crappy the earbud-type headphones are that come with it since I always throw them out and use my own regular headphones. I don't like the earbud style at all.
8. I like lots of actual labeled buttons - not the apple style of one big button. I can read buttons and press different ones no problem, Apple. The less Apple-like interface the better.
9. Should have a way to bookmark or save your position in an audio file.

.. I've had mp3 players since they first came out.. can you believe I paid like $250 for one that held about 15 songs ha ha That was the Diamond Rio player, might have been the first on the market.
.. I can't stand the iPods. To me, that is the absolute worst choice.. I hate having to run everything thru that iPod iTunes software, and the way that Apple makes you convert all files to a proprietary file format.
.. Currently I have an el cheapo Target house brand player that has been doing the job (TruTech). But it won't last much longer. I use and abuse these things.
.. Zune and iPod are both off my list for some of the reasons stated above. I don't think Sansa allows deletion of files straight off of the unit itself. So if there are any suggestions for my next mp3 player purchase I'm listening. Surprisingly, I haven't been able to look up mp3 players on the web or in a store and get answers to all of the above questions.
