What would you do if they destroyed your home, threatened your family. Where would you draw the line |

Charles Schumer, Dianne Feinstein, Edward M. Kennedy, and all the gun-grabbers who insist law-abiding citizens be disarmed so criminals can do their evil deeds without worrying about being shot.
I'm sure those stalwart citizens will protect me. :sarcasm:

4. Not for me or nearly 80 million gun-owners but the scenario described in the OP is not likely when |
|
law-abiding citizens are armed.
Of course the elite can always hire mercenaries like Black Water to protect their families and wealth.

Me? Yeah, I'm pretty afraid of the government. Call me "crazy".

The gun grabbers WANT to disarm the public, which is why legal gun owners must be ever vigilant to make sure this doesn't happen.
Must be nice to think the world's so peachy, that nothing will ever happen to you, and you'll never need to defend yourself with lethal force.

about people who do not own guns. Just about people who don't own guns and think that I should not either. Now about people who own a gun but feel that I should not, I hold them in very well deserved contempt. You are free to decide whether you want to own a gun or not. I respect your decision no matter what it may be. I would expect no less from you in return.

10. own a gun and be a responsible owner, i have 0 problem with that. |
|
i grew up with a gun owner and he is a responsible one, we learned how to shoot and clean them and have a respect ofr what they are and what they can do. I'll tell you what gun owners really piss me off, the ones with small children that don't store their firearms away safely under lock and key and jr. finds it and blows his or his friends head off.

memories are from when I was about 4 years old. I remember moving into a new house. I remember seeing a guy working on powerlines by our house getting electrocuted. I remember the small dog we owned at the time. I remember that I was shooting even then.
One of the biggest mistakes a gun owner can make is keeping his guns away from his children at all costs. Kids who rarely handle weapons are very curious about them. Kids who shoot often, respect them and do not use them as toys should they come across one. Not saying that one should not keep his weapons safely stored, they always should be. But should the gun locker not be secured someday for whatever reason, a kid who shoots often will not be tripping all over himself to get to those guns. A kid who never does will.

..my dad took me to shoot a .22 at age 6. It was a lesson learned when you saw the water filled soda can blow up and was then advised guns do the same to people. I had open access to a shotgun at 11 and a .22 pistol at 13, yet I never took them to school or even considered doing anything wrong with them. You have to demystify guns with kids or otherwise, it's like Bluebeard's wife.

18. Law-abiding citizens in some states have had RKBA taken away by govt. and SCOTUS is expected to |
|
release its decision this month in D.C. v. Heller regarding whether the 2nd Amendment requires government to protect an individual or collective right.
The question framed by the court is "Whether the following provisions—D.C. Code §§ 7-2502.02(a)(4), 22-4504(a), and 7-2507.02—violate the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated mili-tia, but who wish to keep handguns and other fire-arms for private use in their homes?"
Until SCOTUS rules, some people and some governments will continue their efforts to prevent law-abiding citizens from exercising their natural, inherent, inalienable right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

13. I think there's a Guns forum at DU for you. I'm a lot more concerned about the other 9 amendments... |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 12:08 AM by Hekate
I'm a lot more concerned about the other 9 amendments in the Bill of Rights than I am about the 2nd.
My right to bear arms has not stopped the Telecommunications industry from spying on me for the NSA, and it has not stopped TSA from behaving like little fascist functionaries at the airport. It did not stop George W. Bush and Dick Cheney from taking over the country in two fixed elections.
My son owns a gun that he keeps in a safe. My brother likewise. Other than that, the only other weapon I know of in the immediate family is the crossbow my sister owns. That's all fine with me -- but in my family we don't spend much time worrying about it.
On behalf of all of them, I spend my time worrying about the Constitution and Bill of Rights -- all of it.

16. I worry about the enumerated rights as well as unenumerated rights covered by the 9th Amendment. |
|
The OP described a scenario where citizens would be forced to protect themselves and their property either individually or collectively or become subservient to another power.
That is precisely what happened in 1776 and the Revolutionary War and to that end Pennsylvania said:
A DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OR STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA 28 Sept. 1776
"That all men are born equally free and independent, and have certain natural, inherent and inalienable rights, amongst which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety."
And
"That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the state; and as standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; And that the military should be kept under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power."
The majority of other states include similar statements in their constitutions.

19. I give all 10 Amendments |
|
in the Bill of Rights equal relevance. When one right is not given the same weight as the other nine, how can one complain when that very argument is used against us? Isn't a big problem right now Bush not giving the 4th Amendment the same reverance as the rest of the Bill of Rights? See how that works?

That's why nothing happens. It only matters when they come for MY family. It's all just a terribly sad state of affairs til then.
