McCain Gambles with Awkward Joke
Source: abcnews

Maybe it's the governor's approval rating and you are running from him like you are from the president? Asked Ralston in a question McCain clearly found loaded.

Said McCain, chuckling, "And I stopped beating my wife just a couple of weeks ago."

Some have found the subject of McCain's joke -- wife-beating -- inappropriate.

2. a. It was a joke.
b. No, it was not funny.

c. It was typical McCain, saying something tasteless to avoid answering a question he didn't like.

Can we have the election, already, so this old fart will stop getting press?

3. Hey, McCain! Did you hear the one about the also-ran with the tumor on his face?
His campaign was undermined by a mole.

See? It's fucking hysterical to laugh at other people's misfortunes. Hardy fucking har har, you asshole.

6. Like Chimpy, McCain tends to use "humor" when he gets defensive.

8. Just an indication of another type of "bomb" McBomb is going to drop...open mouth, insert foot
Gibbons you may recall started his governorship amidst accusations that he assaulted a cocktail waitress named Chrissy Mazzeo three weeks before Election Day. Mazzeo said Gibbons grabbed her in a parking garage and threatened to sexually assault her. Charges were never filed.

Might want to scratch that joke from the schtick, senator, especially in Nevada.

15. Why is it okay for Republicans to make appalling "jokes" but John Kerry is a villain if he misspeaks
I wonder if anyone among the corporate media and RW spinmeisters who fanned the flames of the Kerry "botched joke" non-controversy for over a week would like to answer me that? What about Hillary Clinton, who went on record as saying that Kerry leaving a word out of a joke obviously directed at Bush was "inappropriate"? Is McCain joking about beating his wife also "inappropriate," or is it less offensive and thus not deserving of a personal condemnation by her?

So please, media whores, do explain how it is that Republicans can say clearly crude and inappropriate things on a routine basis with nary a whisper of controversy but the most benign utterances of Democrats will be twisted and distorted into something that is somehow "outrageous" and faux outrage will fill the airwaves for at least a week.
