Senate Hearings with Fired Federal Attorneys (Video)… Includes Creepy Testimony
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 05:12 AM by nicknameless

Part 2 seems the most revealing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezKxso11zTI
Great questioning by Senator Feingold

Only H.E. “Bud” Cummins seems a little overly *understanding* about the firings.
From Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PSqZ1oOC50

Transcribed testimony about his phone conversation with Mike Elston, the (Deputy?) Chief of Staff to the Attorney General:

"... I pointed out to him that none of the US Attorneys had taken any action to stir up any controversy after we’d been dismissed. And it was only once Congress started calling the Department of Justice to task, and they endeavored to defend their actions, that any of us said anything, because we weren’t comfortable with what was being said.

"And then finally I pointed out to him that all of us at that point had already received a number of phone calls from your staff, and I’m not sure about the House at that point, but we had had many invitations already to come here and do this, and testify, which we had all declined. So I was trying to remind him that we weren’t driving this train, that it was really an issue between the administration and Congress, and we were just witnesses..."

This sounds troubling, IMO. Why should a Federal Attorney have to be so defensive in a conversation with the DOJ?

Now I can add them to my blog. Thanks again for providing the links:loveya:

I was hoping someone would post the link/links to the hearings. I never saw them televised either.

9. My Turn to Return the Thx,
I hope you will return to my blog often, and tell your friends, since I still don't receive much traffic I'm trying to increase my number of viewers. Most of my traffic comes from fellow DUers. I've tried getting other progressive sites to provide a link on their pages, but they never got back to me.

I put hours into them and have fun while doing them. The hours I spend working on those ugly mugs, well let's just say sometimes I have to pluck my eyes from their sockets to purify them again. Usually with a good dose of Stewart and Colbert, that works wonders, helps me get back in the spirit of things:rofl:

The hardest part is having to decide which scandal to use for a topic. So Many Scandals, Too Little Time!!!

Since I'm here how about a BIG A** :kick:

4. Yep. "Archangels of Death", as Chris Matthews refers to Cheney's goons.
Cummins sounds, um ... a bit scared.

5. Ruh Roh!!! This is really intriguing.
This is a real hot potato and it reminds me of the "evidence" that "high level" Iranian officials were providing arms to Iraq "insurgents." Nobody in the WH or anywhere else would sign off on the bogus evidence. It seems that as soon as there was push back on this, the guy who made the calls quit. Now he's testifying. Creepy stuff...must be some huge scandal here.

Bet they wish they'd never heard of Fitz;)

10. I found it VERY troubling that Cummins felt the need to stress to Gonzo's office
that the dismissed attorneys had been declining invitations by the Senate to testify.

It really had that "please don't hurt me" quality to it.

7. Correction: Heading should read "Resigned" Federal Attorneys, rather than "Fired".
(Too late to edit)

Or "Heavily Leaned on and Threatened into Resigning" Federal Attorneys

12. I could see Carol Lam as a potential Supreme Court Justice
appointment in the next Democratic administration. She is smart, articulate, rational.
