14. Impeach? We can't get them to stand up for anything, what makes you think they will impeach?
At this point I am convinced Bushco could slaughter a group of Nuns and Orphans on the steps of the wash monument, call it "National Security" and our party would make a couple mean faces and then say "oh...okay, sorry to bother you".

A year ago I was defending the Party like a pissed off Momma Wolf........ now, I am realizing that my loyalty has been mis-placed.

I'm now an Anti-Republican, Anyone-but-McCain voter....... that makes me sad.

3. At this point I don't see any action I can take as an individual to prevent it.
I can prepare somewhat for myself, my family, but don't see how to prevent mrbush from doing it. As for what happens after, lots of possibilities ranging from minimal immediately to a whole bunch of crap immediately, but with definite long term repercussions, depending on what happens during and right after by Iran and Israel.

especially if Russia or China get involved. I don't see any roadblocks being put in this administration's way.

11. I see at least two problems there. First, would any Congress be able to stop
George? Second, what constitutes a Democratic Congress? A simple bare majority in opposition to a sitting President has limited powers.

13. Congress still has the power to declare war.
At least according to the tattered shreds of the Constitution that are still hanging around.

21. Yes, but.
The military themselves are saying we really, really can't open another front in the Middle East. I have the slightest shade of hope that Congress might listen. Call me stupid. I probably am stupid. :banghead:

I said elsewhere, I don't trust the Navy admirals to put country ahead of career and the Air Force Generals either don't understand the consequences and/or are determined to bring about the Rapture!

5. We have two ways of slowing or stopping them: the military, and Congress.
The DoD/generals under Gates is reluctant to attack Iran, which is good, but Chimpy can override that reluctance any old time he wants, so that won't hold up in the face of increased tensions and provocation by Iran. Congress is really the last line of defense. Hopefully our Reps and Senators are keeping track of the administration's intentions and signals and working to avert catastrophe. I'm not that hopeful.

8. That's the part that worries me. I trust the Army and the Marines to stall
until after January 20, but the Navy seems to have a lot of yes-men careerists and the people running the Air Force are just plain loony. Sorry to offend anyone who demands we support the troops, but the stories coming out about the goings-on at Colorado Springs are scary.

10. Comparing the FISA Bill that will be meaningless in six months to
a massive bombing raid in Iran is like comparing someone who gets a parking ticket to a serial killer.

23. Spying In Violation Of Our Bill Of Rights In Meaningless?
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 11:58 AM by Better Believe It
And how do you think FISA will become meaningless in six months.

Congress will repeal it?

Sure it will.

And I think comparing a bombing raid on Iran with Congressional and Presidential defiance and subversion of our Constitution and Bill of Rights is like comparing someone who violates a traffic law to a serial killer!

I'm against both.

But, let's keep things in proper perspective here!

In the mean time, when did George ever obey a law he didn'ty like anyways?

While we're all spinning our wheels over FISA, George is geting ready to kill another whole bunch of people.

29. With What? Something Tougher?
I just looked at Obama's website to find out his positions on civil liberty issues.

28 different issues are listed and commented on at Obama's website.

Civil Liberties and the defense of our democratic rights is not listed as an issue.

It apparently has become a non-issue in this presidential campaign.

That's not good.

19. Unfortunately for me, it has come down to praying...
I pray that whatever evil plan they have, they are stopped and exposed by something so freaking obvious even the corporate media cannot hide it.

They already attempted a gulf of tonkin incident that didn't work out. The intelligence agencies wouldn't lie for them this time. Maybe if the Israelis realized that bombing a nuclear facility will rain fallout on them, they would fight to stop it...I don't know, but with this 'president' and Congress, we need some serious divine intervention.

28. No. It's not all we can do. It's all we will do. There's a huge difference.
We can do anything we want. But we'll only do "peaceful protest" because "nothing else will work". That translates into: we will not risk our own health and safety and jobs to (1) do what's right and (2) save 5-30 million lives (depending on the Bush regime's strategy) and (3) be responsible for maintaining (or transforming) the government we created.

It's all we will do. We're not willing to resist.
