...will I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby be writing, speaking and warning a new generation of voters about the crimes, failures and lies of whatever Republican administration holds the Oval in that far-off time?
Will Libby's conviction yesterday transform him, over time, into an activist against the very governmental excesses he once directly participated in?
Will progressives in 2037 buy Libby's anti-administration book, a page-turning polemic written from a core of hard-won wisdom? Will those progressives come to champion him?
Impossible, right?
Maybe.
It just ocurred to me that the folks who slogged through Watergate were probably bemused, roundabout 2003, to discover they had an ally named John Dean.
Just a thought.

1. Do you even think that Libby will live another 30 years? |

4. Plausible, but not likely. |
|
As I recall, John Dean did come clean during the hearings and helped blow the lid on the Watergate Cover-up. I don't honestly see Libby doing that, just as happened with Iran-Contra and the Bush I pardon of Weinberger essentially put an end to that affair. That's what I see happening here.

and be a champion of bullshit rhetoric from the far right field bleachers, a rah-rah cheerleader for deception?
I think G. Gordon Liddy is a more likely role-model for Scooter.

having been destroyed as a political party 10-20 years before.

11. While I have no idea if Libby has done any soul searching, |
|
it does appear that he believes that he has done nothing wrong. Mr. Dean, however, did have a "dark night of the soul" during his time with Nixon. I would hope Libby may eventually put loyalty to his Country before his loyalty to the neo-cons, but as it stands now, I think he'll go the way of Liddy and North. :-( (Haha-As a dyslexic, having the words Libby and Liddy in the same post is making my eyes cross.)
