It's enough to let me give her a pass on Obama. :D :hi:

PS she still thinks McCain is more evil but I can't get her to register to vote, so it's no matter.

PPS by '40 years' I mean a pack a day for 40 years.

40 years! Good on her for quitting. I'm almost 3 months smoke free. I smoked for ten years. Quitting was like purgatory with a side helping of hell. Actually Obama running helped me quit.

I thought, if this guy can do it and be running for prez, than I could probably manage!

Good wishes on her staying quit.
edited to add "years" Unfortunate side effect of quitting. Makes you kind of dumb for a bit.

2. Congrats to your Mom!!!
Smoking is pretty nasty.

How much is a carton of cigs? Let's say Lucky Strikes.

6. Over $40 and $50 a carton for standard brands
depending on where you are buying. (SE Pennsylvania.)
Too much for me - quit many years ago.

3. Let's hear it for us former smokers.

:bounce: :toast:

I've quit going on three months now.

Every time I want a cigarette, I think, "Well I have to quit sometime, either now or when I get some kind of horrible lung disease. It might as well be now."

4. Yes!
The first 8 weeks are crazy! But now I'm starting to feel the benefits of quitting. Feels good! Congrats on your 3 month milestone!

5. Please tell her that there is no reason to ever start again.
She did a great thing for herself and you.
There is a lot of crap about stressful situations "making" people start smoking again. In my experience, this is all nonsense. I stopped over 18 years ago, and I give myself a pat on the back from time to time even now. The tobacco addiction was the toughest one I have broken, and I am still pleased I was able to do it.

Many "quitters" I know put the money they would have spent for cigarettes into a savings fund, and buy themselves a present with it as a reward and a reminder.

Congratulations, mom.

7. It's a tough habit to kick
so let her work on one thing at a time. This is a biggie.

Maybe she'll awaken politically when all her addictions are gone.

It's not your job to awaken her. It's just your job to support her when she's struggling.

9. My Mom stopped smoking after 40 years at age sixty
Today she is 84 and pretty healthy. Unfortunately she loves Bill O'Reilly and will probably vote for McCain. Fortunately she lives in NJ and it won't matter.

Which reminds me, I still have to register, having moved to Jersey in May.

10. Tell her to go to the Quitnet.com if she needs support for craves. It is a great site.
Congratulations to her. That is not an easy thing to do. You must be so proud.

11. I quit in August of last year after smoking for 47 years...2 to 3 packs a day.
Just...stopped. I was amazed at myself for having the will power to do it but it was actually pretty easy.
