TPM: Domenici Lawyers Up

What a small world. Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) has nabbed Lee Blalack, best known as Duke Cunningham's lawyer, to represent him in the Senate ethics investigation, The Washington Post reports.

And they note the obvious irony:

Blalack, a partner in O'Melveny & Myers LLP's Washington office, is an experienced defense lawyer. As attorney for Cunningham, who is serving a sentence of more than eight years, Blalack dealt with one of the federal prosecutors who was later ousted, Carol S. Lam of San Diego.

1. Doesn't it occur to Domenici that this guy didn't get Duke cleared

of the charges? Maybe he plead to a good deal for Duke, but he didn't keep Duke from paying for his crime altogether.

Tells me that Domenici is guilty as hell and he knows it.

2. Is this 'ethics' issue related to Abramoff /lobbyists or is it

for calling the Judge that was fired by Gonzales/Bush?

Can we assume it's the same Cunningham type issue?
