22. I loved Lee and Lionel!!
I grew up in Independence, Kansas -- so all of our television channels were from Tulsa. Remember Dr. Mazeppa Poppazoidie?

32. Remember Mazeppa? Of course I remember Mazeppa.
And Sherman Oaks, Teddy Jack Eddy, Judy Judy and that singer with the sack over his head! I wish there were clips on You Tube, but alas there are not.

Here's one for you: Does anyone remember 48 Hours in Atoka?

45. Ah yes, TV in Tulsa.
My sweetie is from OKC and lived in Tulsa in the 70s. He ordered tapes of The Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting of Mazeppa Pompazoide.

So I saw "The School for the Dead" with Sherman Oaks (cracks me up every time), Gaylord Sartain, Gary Busey, etc.

I didn't realize Gaylord Sartain had been in a lot of movies, other than playing The Big Bopper in "The Buddy Holly Story". Sartain was in "Mississippi Burning" and is an accomplished artist.

"The Unknown Politician" was the guy with the sack over his head.

I liked the suggestion of making all the freeways go one way -- OUT of Oklahoma.

6. No more dancing on the ceiling?????????
What is happening here?
Something is going on
Thats not quite clear
Somebody turn on the light
Were gonna have a party
Its starting tonight

Oh, what a feeling!
When were dancing on the ceiling
The room is hot...thats good
Some of my friends came
By from the neighbourhood
People were starting
To climb the walls
Ooh, it looks like everybody
Is having a ball

Everybody starts to lose control
When the music is right
If you see somebody hanging around
Dont get up right
The only thing we wanna do tonight
Is go round and round
And turn upside down
Come on, lets get down

So come on, lets get loose
Dont hold back
Because it aint no use
Hard to keep your feet on the ground
Because when we like to ball it
We only want to get down
What? you say what?
Its love now...
Just get started
Everybody clap your hands, come on
Everybody have sense...

17. Gawd, good riddance! I couldn't change the channel fast enough....
when he was on. As a matter of fact, there were a few things that got me to stop listening to AAR, and he was one of them. I found a much better alternative by listening to & supporting my local progressive radio station -- I should have been doing that all along.

Lionel was absolutely horrific -- another one of AAR's zillion blunders.

24. Me too. Brilliant guy, BUT you can't be ABSOLUTELY "deconstructive".
This morning he's taking the idea of Impeachment apart, sorry, there MUST be SOME ground to stand on. Not all things should be completely de-constructed and thrown to the wind; it's not good for People.

Besides, I have local independent radio to listen to now.

Dang, and he I am, getting my hopes up that AAR finally wised up! :P

We no longer have AAR where I live due to incompetent local station management*, but I used to tune out immediately when Lionel came on. He's terrible and has been from the moment they hired him, imho. Why they don't give Sam Seder a permanent weekday spot continues to baffle me.

I hope other people follow your lead--maybe then AAR will actually hire someone good. :)

*They blocked the last hour of Randi Rhodes and the first hour of The Majority Report to give a slot to a local talker who in less than three months revealed himself to be a homophobic social conservative whose statements also occasionally carried a whiff of anti-Semitism. He stayed on the air at least three months after he made homophobic statements despite repeated, angry complaints from local listeners. Added bonuses? He was anti-science and anti-evolution, too!

ETA: I wish they'd bring back Mark Maron, too. At least then I could still listen to them via podcasts.

and State of Belief and Ring of Fire.

I'd REALLY listen to Mark Marin if they would bring him back.

Lionel's the wrong guy for me in the morning, at night maybe okay, but his voice is wrong for starting the day out and I'm sick and tired of the way that he Deconstructs EVERYTHING. The WHOLE point of Deconstruction is RE-Construction.

He does a good rant occassionally, like the one he did recently about opposition to stem cell research. He's also Funny. But he fucks his callers up and then ridicules them for not reading perfectly what's on HIS mind.

And I didn't like what he was saying against Impeachment Thursday morning.

I'm going to listen to a local guy instead.

48. D'oh!
I meant "not listening to Lionel," not that you stopped listening to AAR entirely. I should've phrased that better.

The thing that used to really bother me about Lionel was that at the beginning of every show he'd go on and on and on about how groundbreaking and fantastic that day's broadcast was going to be. (I lost track of how many days in a row he said the show was going to be so amazing, it would be forever enshrined in the Museum of Television and Radio as soon as it was over.) If the shows were really that good, he should at least have had the good sense to spare his listeners all the puffery and just get going, already.

I like all the other hosts and shows you mentioned, too. I'm still a little depressed that AAR isn't available here anymore--thank goodness for podcasts!
