Wow. How did I miss this?

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Bush administration plan to define several widely used contraception methods as abortion is a "gratuitous, unnecessary insult" to women and faces tough opposition, Sen. Hillary Clinton said on Friday.

...

A copy of a memo that appears to be an Department of Health and Human Services draft provided to Reuters this week carries a broad definition of abortion as any procedures, including prescription drugs, "that result in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation.""

Good for Senator Clinton to step forward on this bullshit. This should be turned into a major campaign issue. Obama needs to get Crash McCaint on the record for or against redefining birth control as abortion.

EDIT: IUDs and Birth Control Pills fit the definition!

2. This would be so much easier if he'd just
come out demanding women wear burqas. It's obviously the direction these guys are heading.

4. C'mon! If women use contraceptives,
who's gonna pump out all the poor babies needed to grow into poor young adults whose best career option will be to join the conscription Army, ensuring our world domination?

:sarcasm:

This is trying to throw the conservative evangelicals a bone so they'll vote for continuing this administration into a McCain presidency. But that conservative evangelical base seems to be growing smaller daily, as conservatives are pissed off at the fiscal policies and evangelicals are waking up to environmental concerns.

The weirdest thing is, don't any of these officials have daughters? I mean, I know their children will never be conscripted, but surely those young woman don't want to be barefoot and pregnant their whole lives! Why don't they speak up?

5. If only we could get "sending our young troops to Iraq to die for oil due to lies" called "abortion"

We'd be able to throw all of the repubs out on their asses.

6. IUDs are ideal for many women. For example, those who can't take the pill.
Especially for monogamous women, since they don't protect against STDs.
Anti-choice fundies can shove it if they don't like IUDs. It's really none of their goddamned business.

8. Anyone get McCain on record about this yet?
I want to see him come out in support of this crap. Alternatively I'd love to see him come out against it. Either way he loses. Hell, if I was him I'd be on the horn with the White House with a hearty "thanks a fucking lot for hanging me out to dry here".

9. It may be an unnecessary insult
But by golly, if it was a genuine, gratuitous-brand insult (accept no substitutes), you'd still be reeling from the insultiness of it all!
