'God bless your credit card'
Johannesburg - God's blessing would last only two minutes and it would create
500 churchgoing millionaires or even billionaires - all they had to do was use
their credit cards to pay $1 000 in offerings to televangelist Benny Hinn.
Hinn's co-pastors apparently had credit-card machines ready with which they could take donations.

Benny Hinn needs it to buy hair products!

1. Wow. Didn't Benny Hinn die in 1992?

Wait, that's Benny Hill.

Who'd know the difference?

2. Benny Hill was a decent man who died poor
and certainly never demanded money from his viewers to bribe their way out of hell.

I sincerely hope somebody catches up to Hinn one of these days. He's one of the worst scumbag hucksters in the business.

I want to see him die as poor and alone as Benny Hill did. Benny Hill didn't deserve it. Benny Hinn does.

10. I'm curious as to where you found the info that Benny Hill died poor...
Edited on Sun Jul-20-08 04:27 PM by adsosletter

18. I'm probably in error
because mine is only word of mouth from a UK friend who said he died in a Council flat without many funds.

I do know that he was amazed later in life that his shows had become so popular around the world.

My favorite bits were the poorly read cue cards (She told me 2 P off) and the badly spliced old movie takeoffs.

3. The only thing dividing those guys is mm.
That Hinn guy soaked my Crazy Fundie Sister out of thousands.

They played her like a drum.

Heartless bastards, playing all Holy-like.

4. I used to love Sunday mornings.
I would start off watching Benny Hinn and then

continue down the line. It sure beat Smurfs.

11. Hell, yeah... A Psycopathic Preacher
Like there's not already enough of them.

Anyone who sells that Eternity for Only Ten Percent of Your Income shuck-and-jive is either a fool or a psychopath.

As one who was raised in a rural, Southern Baptist environment, I can assure you that there is no shortage of the above.

12. I grew up in rural SC.
I HAD to go to church. So did my cousins.

As soon as we left home, we were outta there.

We haven't been back since except for weddings &

funerals. I have been churched!

16. I know exactly what you mean.
My cousins and I did the same.

My Crazy Sister, however, went to the Pentecostals and Nazarenes.

Benny Hinn wiped her out.

14. I live in the bible belt now so I know they're all over the place
it looks like a great fricken' business.

I'm a recovering Catholic from the west coast so I was never really exposed to preachers who live in nice homes, drive nice cars, etc. etc.
... the more they can get in the collection box the nicer the house.

15. What the heck is Benny Hinn doing in Dallas?
It's weird. It was weird when he announced he was moving to Dallas in 1999, pretty much abandoning his church congregation in Florida. It was weirder still when he announced that God had ordered him to build a $30 million World Healing Center in Irving, making it sound like a combination theme park and New Age miracle spa. The way he laid it out, it would be a sort of shrine to famous faith healers of the past, complete with "stereophonic statue gardens," as well as a Holy Ghost Mayo Clinic for the halt, the lame and the afflicted. I had visions of wheelchair-bound hordes being lifted off jumbo jets at DFW Airport and convoying their way over to Las Colinas, like pilgrims pouring into a Disneyworld version of Lourdes. Isn't this the kind of thing that belongs in Tulsa?

19. Bob Jones U is a lovely place to visit
The people at that school make most RWs look tame. I told my brother

if I disappeared not to look for me in Guantanamo or rendered overseas.

I would be some place in BJU. I went to Clemson U, and their Sunday missions

were to come over and try to save us. BJU:"Have you found Jesus?"

Me:"I didn't know he was lost." They were truly scary.
