OKLAHOMA CITY — Outspoken state Rep. Sally Kern was turned back by security Wednesday morning when she arrived at the Capitol carrying a pistol in her purse.

The Oklahoma City Republican said she was as surprised as security officers were when the small gun was spotted inside her purse as it rode on a camera-equipped conveyer at one of the Capitol entrances. snip

Kern became the subject of national news stories this spring when she told a Republican group that homosexuality is a bigger threat than terrorism to the United States. snip

Two signs prominently displayed at the Capitol's east entrance declare that firearms, knives and explosive and flammable materials are prohibited and that all belongings entering the building are subject to inspection.

"Persons who willfully bypass or go around a security checkpoint may be fined and/or imprisoned," one sign states.

1. Second time in 2 months.
Maybe she should consider leaving her gun at home if she can't remember to leave it in the car.

4. Gun-Free Zones in public buildings in states which have CCW
(as OK does) should be required to provide gun lockers so people don't have to leave their legally carried guns in their unattended cars while there. The cost of providing these lockers could easily be offset by using coin-op lockers.

6. So Let Me Figure This One Out
This lady packs heat in her purse? So if she is attacked, somehow she will be able to open the purse, find the gun and then aim it while being attacked? Plus wouldn't the first thing a crook would go for is her purse? I know, I'm asking to use some common sense here.

This is the type of story the late Mike Royko would love to reprint and just tear it to shreads.

8. It's not a means of self-defense
It's a fetish, an empowering talisman. The woman might as well be carrying an icon of St. Barbara.

10. Any place with a security screening checkpoint
is a true gun free zone. Restaurants and zoos usually don't have security checkpoints (metal detectors and security personnel checking each person who enters) therefore while they are often called gun free zones because of signs telling people not to bring a gun in, the only people heeding the signs are law abiding people as has been seen in most of the mass shootings which have occurred in these phony gun free zones.
