Knut, Polar Bear Star, Sparks Lawsuit Over Berlin Zoo Proceeds

July 9 (Bloomberg) -- Knut, Berlin's star polar bear with a Hollywood movie offer and a Vanity Fair cover portrait, is the subject of a lawsuit against his home zoo.

The operator of the zoos in Germany's capital, Zoologischer Garten Berlin AG, was sued by a zoo in north Germany. Tierpark Neumuenster owns Knut and wants a share of the proceeds that the Berlin Zoo makes because of him, it said in a statement today.

``We don't want to take Knut out off the environment he is used to, as the Berlin zoo takes good care of him,'' Peter Druewa, director of Tierpark Neumuenster, said in the statement. ``But we have to take care of our financial interests.''
