Assume EVERYONE on DU has SEEN THIS! Incredible Composite of "OBAMA SMASH!"

KUDO's to Josh Marshall and Firedoglake for keeping this ALIVE...and the "funding that allowed it."

TPMtv: Dana Milbank, We Salute You
07.31.08 -- 7:13PM
By Ben Craw

All it took to set off a full 24 hours of cable news hysteria was one quote that the Washington Post's Dana Milbank attributed to Barack Obama - secondhand, unsourced, out of context, and eventually widely disputed. Nice work, everybody ...

Don't MISS THIS ONE! CORPORATE WHORE MEDIA AT THEIR BEST in STEALING ANOTHER ELECTION! (the voting machines are NEXT!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWRRtslRQuo&eurl=http://talkingpointsmemo.com/

t's a COMPOSITE of every dirty RW/Corporate Whore/Media ATTACK ON OBAMA...thrown together to show the RW TALKING POINTS! And, it finishes off with Rachel Maddow and Jim Clyburn refuting it all! It's a long watch. Don't give up...watch it and listen until the end. I know it's hard for you "short attention spaners" but DO IT! STAY WITH THE WHOLE VIDEO! You won't be disappointed if you know what the "Media Whores" are about in this election just like the last 4.

:hi:

2. One more reason
I can be glad I don't have that kind of crap on my TV. Shepard Smith's question (if I recall correctly who that was) was perfect.

Oh, and Rachel Maddow was amazing.

9. Rachel Maddow again displays incisive integrity otherwise so absent in the media ...
... a media upholstered by people with ENORMOUS arrogance and so very little to be arrogant ABOUT. Man... talk about PROJECTION. Appalling.

Again it's about his being black ... and the greasy-cast-iron-frying-pans-for-brains calling HIM black.

10. what was that, 7 minutes of reinforcing a negative image and 30 seconds of debunking?
sure it's all a lie, but pat buchanan knows his politics. even right after you've been told it's wrong, just get it in there one more time. milk it for all it's worth.

if it's been discredited, fine. quietly move on to the next target but the seeds have been sown.

sooner or later there will be another opportunity to harp on the same meme again with some future quote and it will resonate because people remember the 7 minutes of reinforcement and not the 30 seconds of debunking.

we need seven minutes of harping on a theme that republicans LIE, LIE, LIE and then just make shit up and lie about that as well!

13. Amateur hour.
Editing is always the essence. Although I liked seeing some of the clips I haven't seen before (I don't have cable or satellite) the juxtaposition didn't make much sense.

This is one of the problems with the "average citizen" holding cameras and having the ability to post that video on the net. Not only is the video and audio of marginal quality, the storyline done through the editing process is often incomprehensible. In this case, the author didn't shoot this video, but recorded a bunch of cuts and pasted them together to create (in his mind) a statement.

Maybe the statement and the technique were obvious to him, but 20 or 30 years ago it would never have made it on the air. Now, all one has to do is upload any dreck you like to YouTube and, VOILA, it's out there. Maybe it's a good thing that this whole media thing has become more democratic. But there is a lot of bad with what good you can gleen from what you can watch.

16. Buried in the comments was a little nugget that caused me to search around...
Something like "Obama is being smeared as the Messiah by the Wingnuts, but it's ok with them if God talks to George Bush".

It's a perfect comeback.

"I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it."
--George W. Bush commenting to Texas evangelist James Robinson in the run-up to his presidential campaign

"God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam , which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."
--Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Abu Mazen quoting Bush when they met in Aqaba; reported in The Haaretz Reporter by Arnon Regular

"President Bush said to all of us: 'I am driven with a mission from God'. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did."

Mr Bush went on: "And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/oct/07/iraq.usa

In reference to the above quote:

"This sounds much like the original Haaretz version. Bush then allegedly said God had now told him to 'go get the Palestinians their state.'"
