But because it's in a restraining order which is a public record, this hearsay is available to the press to discredit Ivins. How convenient that the restraining order was issued--a few days ago, even though the guy was supposedly dangerous for years, according to the hearsay. If i were setting up a fake suicide, that would be a sweet gambit.

If the patient is a danger to themselves or others (as judged by the treating professional) the therapist, counselor or MD has a legal obligation to report to the authorities. There really is no hard and fast confidentiality in treatment now a days. It's important to read the fine print of any treatment agreement you sign with your Mental Health Provider. (That is if they even offer you one.) Treatment records are subject to subpoena (even after the death of the patient) and most of the time the treatment professional will not contest it.
