That was the query on tonight's CBS Evening Nooz with Ms. Couric.

How long until they declare that we're hunky dory again? And house prices go up, Hummer sales boom, and maybe even the tech bubble gets reinflated? Can record dividends from GM be far behind?

That was the tone of what I heard on the CBS Evening Nooz tonight.

Thank you, Ms. Coric.

2. Till after the election. Re-pigs know that they need oil down, so they called Dick
He made a few calls and boom... when Obama gets elected you will see gas prices shot to $12 a gallon, because Dick asked for it.

4. Oh, good; what a relief!
Guess I'll go buy that SUV I had my eye on and ditch those goofy CFL bulbs. Everything is OK now.

5. The economy will get worse over the next few months.
The positive effect of the rebate checks will disappear.

7. More likely a bear market rally
The vast bulk of retail price increases due to rising commodities and increased costs of shipping arent yet in the stores.

Also the housing crisis has more to come, as the unaffordable ARM's will still be resetting through 2009 and beyond.

The MSM would dearly love to see the economy turn around to help McCain in November, but they're being delusional in the face of further downsides in the economy.

8. Yea right
House values continue to drop through the floor, banks are still failing, people are still scared to spend...

An observation, too--Oil is down approx. 19% from its high, but as far as I can tell, gasoline is only down about 7% from its high where I live. Wonder what's causing the disconnect...................................

10. In fairness to the good Ms. Couric .....
.... her report was only what was in the title of my OP. The rest is what it sounded like to me.

And the disconnect you ask about? Maybe that freak of nature in the picture in your sig line is the answer?

He's the Deliverance kid all growed up, ain't he?

9. I've read that some large businesses..
.. are trying to keep the pain away from customers until after the election. If customers aren't hurting as much, they're more likely to vote Republican.

Wal-Mart, for example, is trying to keep its prices low (despite significant inflation), in order to not pass costs to its customers.

After the election, I suspect things will get even uglier; this isn't over by a long shot.

11. My impression as well.
George wants to be remembered as a great president. However, a repug can’t fix this mess, wait until Obama gets in office, then have the depression, that ‘ill teach us. There is even more money for these unconscionably, greedy warmongers to make off a depression.

12. Um, because they are taking money out of oil and sinking it in stocks?
Whatever the world's biggest investors and fund managers decided to sink all the money into at once will drive up the values - and if they can screw folks like me in the process that makes um all the happier.
