has had two distress calls in the Arctic Sea. Shows the importance of having a site that far north now. Three ships were stuck in the ice but broke free on their own even though an icebreaker had been dispatched to assist them, and are continuing on their course across northern Canada to the Atlantic. Amazing things have happened in my life span..

As shipping increases in the Arctic there are going to be more and more distress calls and it used to be the closest base was Dutch Harbor and that is about a thousand miles away from Pt Barrow..
