It's NOT the infidelity... IT'S THE ARROGANCE! |
|
I do not give a shit what John Edwards does in his bedroom (or hotel room while his wife sleeps in his bedroom).
What pisses me the hell off, and should piss off EVERY DEMOCRAT is the fact that he put his damn ego ahead of our party.. ahead of this election.. and ahead of every single person he claims to want to represent.
How in the hell did he NOT THINK THIS WOULD GET OUT? In this day and age where you can't fart without 20 people reporting on it.. he actually thought he could have a full blown affair (not just a one night stand) that was known to many in his inner circle as well as his wife, but yet it wouldn't get out to the public? Did he learn NOTHING from Bill Clinton??
Yup.. it should be no ones business but his what he does in his private life. SHOULD. But, in this country - that is not the way it is. He knew full well that IF this got out, there would be absolutely NO WAY he could win the election.. but yet he decides to put his ego ahead of everyone and everything else and run for president anyway. What the hell would have happened if he would have won the democratic nomination? We would currently be pissing all over ourselves and handing John McCain the election (thank GOD we aren't).
So FUCK YOU Edwards.. not for having an affair - but for putting the entire party - and all Americans who really need a democrat to win this election at risk of being at war for another 100 years, putting SCOTUS nominations behind your dick, and for thinking that your indiscretions are somehow immune from this sort of scrutiny. You brought this nightmare upon yourself, your wife and your friends not only when you slept with the woman... but when you decided that even in light of that you should still run for President. You deserve every bit of this.. your family & friends do not. Shame on you.

Sorry... some of us don't live on DU. I was working all day.. came home, had dinner.. turned on the TV and saw the story - so i'm replying with my thoughts about an hour after hearing the news.
I didn't realize there was a time limit on when you could type your thoughts on this board... evidently if you don't break the news yourself, you're not entitled to an opinion?
And - for the record.. most of the posts i'm reading are saying either "It's no ones business.. this isn't a big deal" or.. "I hate him for having an affair.. screw him". I'm posting my opinion that seems to be a bit different from many i'm reading here.

7. Ok here are some of the stories not covered today |
|
while you take the chum from the water
Russia invades Georgia (we have 500 advisors there and Georgia is pulling out their troops from Iraq, battle hardened troops
This is the classic central asian game... this matters... Edwards doesn't
Some other stories not covered
US Carriers moving towards the gulf, could be usual hand over end of tour thing... could be something else
The US Productivity was lower than expected
Fannie Mae reported a loss in the billions
In the meantime... damn I am angry with Edwards
Free clue... to run for office at that level you need a certain level of arrogance. That said, this story should not matter and you should not be taking the bait.
As far as the media is concerned, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED... you are throughly distracted

and he just got busted for having an affair.. you might have a different opinion.
And, for the record - you can have an opinion about this story and GASP have one about other stories as well.
Hell.. i'm multitasking as we speak.. watching the olympics and bitching about John Edwards ego on DU.
What kind of a board would this be if shit that the media reported wasn't discussed here? Not much of one.. so yup.. there are other more important things going on right now - but that doesn't mean no one is going to talk about this one.

if the circumstances were the same
For the record... I watched MSNBC today for about four hours
I saw NOTHING on the stories I mentioned above
They were on full Edwards is a horrible person mode... aka throwing chum in the water
I'd also have the feeling that the media would not cover that story either, or just become a blimp in the news cycle, not THE NEWS
On and I forgot to add.. his political career would not be over, and hell's bells he would still have a chance to run again.
Think WHY they want to remove any chances of JE even having a role in a democratic white house?
Second dots that you should try connecting

When are Americans going to get it? They're politicians, for chrissakes, not saints. I honestly don't care about their private life as long as they're not outlandishly hypocritical, and if they do the freaking job they're paid to do. Of course, they don't, though Edwards was better than most. Maybe not as good when serving, but better now that he's left, IMHO.
If you want a freaking saint in Congress, vote for Mother Teresa. Oh wait, she's dead. But in that state, she wouldn't do a worse job than the current crew. Maybe a priest? Oh wait, many of them have their own ethical challenges. Or maybe Pope Benedict? Oh wait, there's the issue of his past in Nazi Germany. Oh well, we're stuck with the fact that they are all fallable human beings. Live with it.

I just said in my original post that what he does on his own time is his own choice. I know most presidents cheat on their wives.. but my point was that Edwards KNEW that right or wrong - if the media got ahold of this story it would absolutely bury him and his campaign. He would have no way to win. But he ran anyway. Is it fair that Repugs can do it and get away with it? Hell No.. but I don't make the damn rules. I think it's absolutely PATHETIC that McCain cheated on wife 1 with Cindy... and no one mentions it.. but it is what it is. Edwards put the party at risk by running for President while knowing that skeleton was at the very front of his closet.
Name for me a guy RUNNING for office who had an affair revealed and still got elected? Especially AFTER the nightmare of the Clinton years (again - right or wrong.. it did damage the Democratic party.. many did leave the party and went independant). So after knowing all of that, a guy who was either engaged in, or just completing an affair would have done the party more favors by staying the hell out of the race.

31. Where did I say that I wouldn't have vote for him? |
|
If it were McSame v. Edwards and this story just came out - i'd be putting an X in Edwards box. I DO NOT GIVE A SHIT WHO HE SLEEPS WITH.
But many OTHER Americans (Dem's included) do give a HUGE fuck about that. You and I do not control those people, their thoughts, thier opinions, and most importantly their votes. And, based on history - we know that when it comes to sex in this country - people get very stupid.. and start thinking about thier views on morality in the bedroom over other much more important factors (like war in Iraq.. Enegery Policies, Healthcare, etc.)
Voicing my opinion about how John Edwards fucked up doesn't have anything to do with how i'd vote. But my point remains the same.. other people wouldn't vote for the guy.. and we'd be guaranteed 4 more years with McCain if Edwards was "our guy". That was the point of my post

38. If played right.. i think this could hurt McCain more then anything.. |
|
Obama hasn't even come close to being tied to anything resembling an affair.. and say what you want about his wife Michelle - but one listen to her and you have to think Obama is actually somewhat afraid of her and wouldn't even think of having an affair on her. Perhaps it's my "I heart Obama" fog that makes me think that - but I really think Michelle is one of the few politicans wives who would actually divorce him, take every dollar she could along with the girls and watch gleefully while his political career imploded. Because of this, I don't think he'd ever actually cheat on her. Nevermind the fact that they actually appear to really be still in love as well - but one never knows.
More to my point.. if the media continues to harp on this.. someone is bound to eventually bring up the question "Why is Edwards having an affair in 2006 worse then McCain having an affair with now wife Cindy many years ago"? I think there are a lot of repugs and independants who still have no clue that he ever cheated on his disabled first wife.. and this could possibly bring that to the surface. Which explains McCains quick "no comment" remark when asked about his opinion of the Edwards issue earlier today.
Anyway - we'll see if we can get this to play to the Dems advantage or not.
