How screwed up is this? British Businessman Decapitates Himself in Sports Car Suicide
British Businessman Decapitates Himself in Sports Car Suicide

Friday, August 08, 2008

In a grim attempt at revenge against his estranged wife, a British businessman committed suicide by decapitation in his Aston Martin sports car, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported Friday.

According to the Mail, Gerald Mellin, 54, had been consumed with dark thoughts surrounding his 34-year-old wife's decision to leave him.

The day before his death, a court had granted Mirielle Mellin additional alimony, the Mail reported.

Following the decision, in the last contact with his wife, Mellin sent a text message reading, "Congratulations, XXX."

The businessman then reportedly tied one end of a rope he kept in his Aston Martin convertible to a tree and wrapped the other end of it around his neck as he sat in the driver's seat. He then drove the car at a high speed onto a busy road, forcing other drivers to witness his violent suicide, the Mail said.

Phillip Rogers, the coroner assigned to the case, ruled the cause of death as decapitation.

"I'm satisfied this was a deliberate attempt by Mr. Mellin to kill himself."

17. The guy was sick, but at least he took himself out...
instead of mowing down innocent people, or his ex with a gun. I almost admire the guy. This took balls and a little bit of creativity.

What a way to go, as they say.

18. Same here
But if I ever get that despondent, I'd at least leave the Aston Martin pristine, and I say that as someone whose primary mode of transportation is a mountain bike.

Hard to believe she'd be eager to drive it now. Maybe that was his real revenge...

33. Read the whole story, he ran up the bills, she's liable for them.
Mr Mellin owned the gym and sun tanning centre where his wife had worked as a beautician. The inquest heard the pair had both been married before their wedding in 2002.

They split up five years later, and Mrs Mellin continued to live in their luxury farmhouse in the village of Crumlin, near Neath, South Wales. She told the court: 'Our marriage was horrendous most of the time. After we split he phoned me and said he wanted to do a deal with selling the business.

'He had been to see an accountant but the way he did it was all wrong. I said it was about time we stopped arguing and started behaving like adults.

'That was when I met him in the pub and he showed me the rope.'

The inquest in Swansea heard that after her husband's death she discovered he had cancelled a life insurance policy which would have paid out to her.

She said: 'He ran up an extortionate amount of debt. I've got to sell the farmhouse now, just to pay the debts.

I'll give him an 'A' for originality.

4. From his will: "To my lovely wife, I leave the Aston Martin."
:P

Seriously though, that is pretty messed up. It's a shame that innocent folks had to see that (and I imagine it was unsettling even for the responders involved).

22. Are those leather seats or upholstery?
Because if it's upholstery, that shit ain't gonna be easy to clean up. I would imagine ripping your head off at high speed would leave one hell of a mess!

29. huh?
The guy clearly had emotional problems, and probably mid-life crisis considering the car and the young wife. Good for her that she was able to get out of the relationship. Who knows how he treated her when they were together. I'm guessing someone with that kind of temper wasn't much fun to put up with.

You are more than a little out of line. This guy own his actions all himself. Given his WAY over the top violent revengeful method of dealing with a breakup, I wouldn't be surprised if he was abusive.

Abusers are that way because THEY have a problem; not because the women in their lives are "bitches."

I hope you never find yourself in such a position to understand that.

39. You're right.
Not knowing the situation, I was out of line. I was reflecting on two people I know who got taken for all they were worth in their later years by greedy wives, but I don't know this situation.

Sorry, and I stand corrected.

To the 'businessman', "you really got her on that one!" :stupid: <---- if it happened that way at all. :wtf:
