The idiocy of comparing affairs. He started it!
Like some playground gang of kids busted for being bad, there is always the "they started it", or "they are doing the same thing" defense. As Edwards is hauled off to sit inside for recess, the others like McCain, Vitter, Craig, and all go back to playing on their republican jungle gym. We all knew the bad kids in school. We all knew the ones that got away with things.

Republicans are scum, they always have been and always will be. What separates them from the worms (debatable), is their amazing abilities. These include rallying around one of their threatened, protecting them at all costs. Lying, we can't forget lying. This is the pinnacle of their achievements as they could be in a press conference with a You Tube video of their guy with a hamster, a roll of duct tape, naked, and the guy will ask "what are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?"

Well facts are facts. They are better liars. They are better manipulators. They are better at getting a one note message out. They are better at being horrors of human beings, at the cost of country, society, and would climb over their dead mother to get elected. All in all they are the opposite of us.

The opposite of us. That means we are better than them. WE are the good guys. So comparing scandal to scandal is pointless and absurd.

So you can point and finger all the republican scum you want. We all know the gig with Republicans. Lying rat bastards with wide stances, diaper fetishes, and freakiness that would make a porn star look wide-eyed. What does it accomplish? We as the good guys work on trust, the promise to make things better, to make us a better society in all ways, while republicans do the exact opposite. I am not proposing not exposing them, as a Republican scandal regarding sex and kink is on a lunar cycle at times.

So Edwards was caught. Don't compare him to republicans. Don't point like some kid screeching at McCain, "what about him?" This is about Edwards, and all that came with him and make us as a party. He was one of the good guys. He was a Democrat, and we hold our standards much higher than Republicans, so his denial, then "oh shit I can't contain this" moment is judged by a party of Democrats. Us. The good guys. Our standards ARE higher, so the fall is that much more.

1. if you think "we're better than them" means we're neuter, i truly feel sorry for you
in the real world a man can be a good person and still be a man with a man's sexuality

i truly feel sorry for people who can't see that

they are far more destructive to the future of the party than edwards and clinton could ever be

real people want real red-blooded men and women as their leaders, not empty puppets

what are you going to do when some tabloid finds an obama girlfriend? or do you suppose he's the only man of ambition in america who never had sex?

it's time to grow up and be an adult now

stop worrying about tittle tattle, edwards didn't "fall," the level of discourse on this subject is an insult to adults

5. Oh, I see! Thanks for pointing that out! We want a
"REAL, RED BLOODED MAN" TO BE PRESIDENT. One who chases skirts and cuts notches so we KNOW he's a real leader.

Good googly moogly I may be ill, I thought this shit went out with the 50's....................

4. But thats just an empty straw-man republican excuse
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 11:22 AM by mrcheerful
seems to me that no dem has ever claimed to be morally above anyone else nor do dems force their moral idealisms on everyone. When a dem gets caught in an affair we aren't surprised why? Because we understand they are just humans. On the other hand when pukes get caught, remember they say they are the party of high moral standards, it is a big deal because pukes want to legislate morals. That is the heart of the problem, everyone stands around pointing fingers instead of looking at themselves. Have I ever cheated on a relationship? No, not yet. But there it is, the key word "yet". To me its like the guy with an addiction telling himself he hasn't a problem because he hasn't had police contact or hasn't stole, he doesn't realize that sooner or later if he continues doing what he is doing, then he too will end up in the same boat.

edited for spell check.

6. "claimed to be morally above anyone else"
First, you are correct. To my recollection no Democrat ever walked on stage and said that he or she was "morally superior".

But......they have ambled on stage telling a crowd how they are a good God fearin, homo marriage fighting, one of the good guys Democrat.

So either we need to get the real story from our candidates or everything we hope for can be lost for the want of a zipper. This one was kinda close.
