IT IS TIME - NOW. We won't get another chance.
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 04:34 PM by JFN1
It is time to start flooding Pelosi's office with DEMANDS.

We must demand Congress be immediately recalled from vacation.

We must demand Congress immediately begin impeachment proceedings against VP Cheney, and if the investigation leads to it, Bush, Rice, etc.

Ron Suskind's book is just the latest evidence of high crimes committed by the Bush administration. The evidence is everywhere, and it is overwhelming.

Here is the contact info:

DC Office:
Phone: 202-225-4965
Fax: 202-225-8259

District Office - San Francisco:
Phone: 415-556-4862
Fax: 415-861-1670

Email: sf.nancy@mail.house.gov

I will be on the phone, and will be sending both email and fax messages. I will post my written messages, in case anyone wants to use them in whole or in part for their own message. I will be contacting my Representative in Congress as well, and will be making the same demands.

Folks, if we fail to act on this, if we don't start applying TREMENDOUS pressure - and right now - WE LOSE BIG. And maybe we'll deserve to.

You all know the reasons why we MUST have impeachment - simply put, if we don't have it, the rule of law is dead, the Constitution is dead, and America, the land we love, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of the wealthiest 1%.

If we fail to act, we are NO BETTER than those who are shirking their Constitutional duties - and in a very real way, choosing to ignore the Constitution - for short-term political gain (greed).

It is OUR COUNTRY. If we don't take it back right now, we'll lose it forever.

UPDATE: I will also be faxing this letter to all of my local television stations and newspapers. I suggest you do the same, with yours. And to those who fear Nancy may come back and take up with the Republicans - yes, that is a risk - but she will show herself for true, if she does - it would be hard to spin it otherwise. And this is one more reason to involve the local media.

3. Here is my letter to Pelosi - feel free to use it
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 05:14 PM by JFN1
Madam Speaker -

As a concerned citizen of the United States, I come to you today to ask you to carry out your responsibility to protect and defend our Constitution.

The 110th Congress has repeatedly ignored high crimes and misdemeanors committed by the Executive branch. You personally, Ms. Pelosi, have repeatedly stated that you will not allow an impeachment investigation into the actions of the Executive branch. You recently told TIME magazine, and I quote: "You can't talk about impeachment unless you have the facts, and you can't have the facts unless you have cooperation from the Administration." This is an absurd argument, Ms. Pelosi, as any competent prosecutor or investigator will tell you. George Bush and Richard Cheney are not emperors; nor are they kings.

Ms. Pelosi, it is time for you and your peers in Congress to remember you do not own the United States - We do.

It is not your place to interpret the Constitution; rather it is your duty to follow the Constitution. Past impeachments certainly offer boundaries the 110th Congress could readily adhere to, and, these past impeachments certainly validate this demand for impeachment proceedings to begin immediately.

Further, your arguments as to why impeachment cannot occur against members of the Bush administration are not Constitutionally valid. In fact, given the scope of the crimes that have been committed, the only Constitutionally valid action Congress can take, is to pursue impeachment immediately. The evidence of these crimes is everywhere, and it is overwhelming.

Your Constitutional duty is clear.

Recall Congress.

Begin impeachment proceedings against Vice President Richard Cheney.

Regards,

UPDATE: Pelosi lists another email on her website: AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov -- she says this is for communicating with her in her role as Speaker - so try this one, as well.

4. Your sentiments are admirable
I applaud your passion and agree with your goals.

But, you do realize that email and phone calls and faxes won't accomplish anything. Nothing. You're wasting your time. The idea of being Congress back from its summer recess is a great one, but, I am afraid, naive. It's not going to happen. Only for really life-threatening matters, like should Terri Schiavo's feeding tube be removed, do the pandering wimps we have in Congress return from holiday.

There is one way I know that things get changed in this country, and I saw it during the Vietnam years, and that is by putting bodies in the streets, over and over, and making noise, loud, unstoppable, incontrovertible noise.

People today, the people who lament what has been happening, are fools who think they can make anything happen from the comfort of their sturdy chairs and their ergonomic keyboards. Get out there and DO something, instead of more of the same.

Look at Iraq, and the five-plus years that it's gone on. No one even pays attention to it anymore. It's easy to ignore because no one is going to be drafted into the military like they were during Vietnam. If we had a draft now, I daresay everything about our government would be quite different.

But, you know what? It's too late. It's over. They did it, they got away with it, we let them get away with it, we let Congress do nothing, and now we can just sit and watch what won't happen.

Sitting, you see, is what most people do best, instead of getting off their duffs and getting out there, involved, hands-on, noisy, causing trouble, making headlines, closing down roads and, in short, making all kinds of mischief as was done during Vietnam. Our Pentagon Paper heroes, our Katharine Grahams, our Woodwards and Bernsteins, either don't exist or were never given a chance to be born.

Party's over, honey. I'm sorry as hell, but that's what I think.

7. I'd suggest a general strike
but no one ever goes for that.

That is why I suggested we involve the local media. Make Nancy explain it over and over again why she won't impeach.

Sure it might not work - but this can be said of every human endeavor - and I just don't believe the possibility of failure is sufficient cause not to act.

And it's OUR PARTY and it's not over until we ALL say its over - never forget that. Never forget that if the party is truly over, We the People allowed it to end.

14. Forgive me for sounding cynical,
but it's not our party. It's their party, and they'll do what they want with it.

Your last line characterizes perfectly what I believe.

6. Snail mail is more effective than email anyway.
Emails don't have the same substance, even if they're quicker.

8. I wrote this to Speaker Pelosi last week
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 04:51 PM by sheeptramp
Dear House Speaker,

What would the Bush/Cheney Administration have to do for you to consider putting impeachment back on the table?

If Cheney had been shown to favor a plan to disguise American soldiers as Iranians and get them to shoot at .....other American soldiers , in order to turn US sentiment towards a pre-emptive invasion of another oil-rich sovereign nation?
Would that get you dusting off the impeachment issue?

If you learned that Bush / Cheney had directed the CIA to forge documents to show a false link between 911 terrorist,,Mohammad Atta and Saddam Hussein, in order to plunge your country into an ill concieved war that costs more treasure than we can afford, and more lives than our hearts can bear?
would that induce you to get that table set?

What if Bush and Cheney had directed their staff to reveal the name of an undercover CIA agent as a cold act of political revenge? Would you be moved to action?

If you learned that the administration stripped our Justice Department and federal judiciary bare, in order to fill it with unqualified jackbooted hacks and partisan butt-kissers. Would that be the straw that does it?

If they wire-tapped hundreds of thousands of US Citizens without warrant? Would that get your interest?
If they kept people cruelly confined for years without trial? Would you so much as raise an eyebrow ?

If they obstructed and impeded investigation of the worst terrorist incident ever to darken our continent?
Would you be look up from your book signing and say, "That is, by God, ENOUGH!"

These questions are rhetorical. Sadly, I know the answers.

Your nation lies bleeding. Justice is a corpse.

History is going to look back to now.

Heres the question that plagues me. I wish, Dear Speaker that it plagued you too. The question I would really like to ask you is this:

What would the Bush administration have to do for you to bring impeachment to the table?

Respectfully,
Susan ******

10. I demanded that a long time ago.
When H Res 333 was introduced April 24, 2007.

And again in November when H Res 799 was introduced in November 2007.

Not that Congress cares to listen to my demands.

I guess it can't hurt to do it again.

12. We MUST come together
We MUST unify!!!! Together, we are mighty! And I'll say it again - if we don't do it now, WE'VE ALL GIVEN UP.

I don't know exactly who wins in this scenario (besides the super-rich, at least in the short-term), but I know who loses...and so do you.

If she still refuses to listen to us, then at least keep her on the defensive. I'd like to see her besieged on ALL SIDES by this. Even if she won't give in, hopefully she won't have any restful nights.
