Supremacist silver lining?
PEARL, Miss. – They’re not exactly rooting for Barack Obama, but prominent white supremacists anticipate a boost to their cause if he becomes the first black president. His election, they say, would trigger a backlash – whites rising up, a revolution of sorts – that they think is long overdue.

He’d be a “visual aid,” says former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, in trying to bring others around to their view that whites have lost control of America. Obama’s election, says another, would jar whites into action, writing letters, handing out pamphlets rather than sitting around complaining.

While most Americans have little or no direct contact with white supremacists, organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center keep close tabs; the law center estimates about 200,000 people nationwide are active in such groups. These observers think the prospect of a white revolution is fantasy.

White supremacists – many call themselves nationalists or “White activists,” with a capital W – have had limited political success.

2. They can wish and hope all they want but it does not hold up to facts.
Numerous social studies have shown the more exposure to another race a person has, the less afraid they are of that race.

So seeing Obama's face all the time on the news is going to actually do just the opposite of what the white racists want.

4. I don't have any data on this, and I accept what you say. But it seems to me that
the kind of hatred that drives the republican party would become more sharp if Obama were elected.

I say this because I sense it around me (W.PA). I have already heard several "jokes" based on Obama's race from republicans in public and in social situations that appears to be prevalent. I saw what they did during Harold Ford's campaign. (The republicans still have time to mount a heavy racist campaign for their base before November)

By building up and supporting this hatred the republicans can strengthen their base. When these types become more passionate they can be dangerous. As we have seen in our past they even burned down schools with children in them to express themselves. I don't have that much faith in all 'murcans. It would not surprise me to see a "surge" in KKK activity if Obama were elected.

5. It would be on the scale of Jesse Helms
It wouldn't surprise me if they did start a racist campaign... I can say one thing, John McCain did jump down the RNC's throat here in North Carolina after they used Obama's pastor in a political ad. The commercial was eventually pulled...

3. The racist's new and never more appropriate moniker - "W"

What other single word, phrase, meme, catchphrase or bumper sticker could convey everything that is wrong with them?

It's revolutionary.
