The Case Still Isn't Closed (Newsweek/Anthrax)
Source: Newsweek

When the FBI publicly branded the late Dr. Bruce Ivins as the anthrax killer, it unsealed court affidavits suggesting a possible motive for the mailing to one target: NBC anchor Tom Brokaw. According to the affidavits, Ivins was angry about repeated Freedom of Information Act requests from Gary Matsumoto, identified as "an investigative journalist who worked for NBC News" who was looking into Ivins's work on an anthrax vaccine. "Tell Matsumoto to kiss my ass," the affidavit says Ivins wrote in an Aug. 28, 2001, e-mail, noting that was "weeks" before the Sept. 18, 2001, anthrax mailing addressed to Brokaw. But Matsumoto told NEWSWEEK the FBI never interviewed him as part of its investigation. If it had, he says, he could have told them he'd actually left NBC News five years earlier. At the time he was bombarding Ivins's lab with FOIA requests, he was employed by ABC. "They're trying to connect dots that don't connect," he said.

There were 200 at the private one last week.

The people who know Ivins don't believe FBI.

3. Good one LeighAnn k*r
What an odd case this is. Here's the give away:

"But {b}after the FBI learned of Ivins's history of psychological problems, it had experts re-examine the results, and they concluded he'd used "countermeasures" such as controlled breathing to fool the examiners. All that and more is now likely to be reviewed by Congress. "There are clearly a lot of unanswered questions," said Iowa GOPSen. Charles Grassley, who asked for a full probe."

So he passed the lie detector test, then they needed a counter argument to that showing he wasn't
their guy. What to do? Right, go after his mental health and claim that, somehow, that means he'd
know how to use countermeasures. If people can use countermeasures then why use the damn tests to
begin with.

Doesn't fly. Newsweek wlil get a visit from someone soon, no doubt.

6. That's crazy.. Controlled breathing would be only 1 way to help improve the
test... They monitor your pulse.. how fast its racing... they monitor the words and how they sound. I'm sure they have the most improved types of intervention.. for all we know they gave him truth syrum... the whole case stinks. Things aren't adding up. AND way too many are calling b.s. after all the lies they've told.

7. There's a reason polygraphs aren't admissible as evidence
And that's because they're about as reliable as reading chicken entrails in divining someone's guilt or innocence. That being said, the FBI is actually asserting that because a network reporter was "bombarding" the government with FOIA requests, Ivins sent anthrax to the anchor for another network? I've known 7-year-olds who could concoct a better story, and do it on the fly.

15. Robert Hannsen
When he had to take a polygraph, he called his Soviet handlers and they said, just go in and
take it, you'll be fine. How did they know that? They saw Hannsen as a sociopath, one who
can lie with ease. So the test is not able to pick up the biggest crooks. Useless. They'd
do just as well using one of their psychics;)

We don't know who did what but the way things are handled with Ivins, the case loses more
credibility with each announcement. This is being rammed down their throat, I'll bet. There
must be a huge secret they're trying to suppress. It's like Tenet getting that stupid letter
from the WH, as Suskind reported, and just sending it down the line even though he knew it
was b.s. That's what they want, give it to them. The FBI may know this doesn't fly.

I'd like to know who is applying the pressure.

5. It won't matter. The important part is the government spread the lie into the public conscience.
This correction will appear on the 5th page buried next to the classifieds, and most of the ink was devoted to the lie, not to the truth.

12. That's the sad fact
The vast power of our state institutions really have no interest in digging out who actually stands behind the anthrax attack, and thus they feed the public this. And "this" will settle in the consciousness of the casually minded as "case closed", the FBI got their man -- and he was a "registered Democrat" too!

from his files, movie critique of the Da Vinci Code, to his laundry list, well maybe not his laundry list...but no suicide note, and most people write one before committing suicide...so where is it?

16. Not much that stands up to scrutiny in their case
"unanswered questions about the FBI's scientific tests, most of which have not been peer-reviewed, as well as the lack of direct evidence showing Ivins actually mailed the fatal letters. Despite repeated searches, for instance, the FBI could not find any trace of the deadly anthrax in Ivins's home, cars or clothing. "
