Anatomy of a HSEC cyber attack !!ALERT!! Read This!!!

I would like your opinion on the following situation, which is happening right now.

My father in law lives in Europe, is former military and has emailed me recently.

Tonight my computer has been going bonkers, with the MPCMDRUN.EXE program initially calling
out to microsoft. O.K. I say to myself, they are updating the security scanner, so I allow
it. Well that seems to be a mistake, because just now my computer has called out to SRI International.

I looked them up and this is what their website http://www.sri.com/ says

SRI International Social Analytics Technology Supercharges Popular Online Military Communities.

They are involved in among many other things "Homeland Security and National Defense", Communications and Networking, Computing.

My question to the community is have I been hacked by Homeland Security? Is this an Illegal Search and Seizure? Is this carnivore in action?

Does this violate my right to privacy? (I feel it does.)

What should I do next? I feel perhaps it would be in my best interest to contact my congressperson.

Barak, you'll be getting an email from me soon!

3. Use Linux.
Microsoft cannot be trusted because they STILL don't know how to secure ANYTHING. Outbreak Express and Internet Exploder are the worst.

Did you know that no one at Microsoft knows exactly what everything in the Registry does?

****

I get probed on occasion. They don't get in. I hang a honey pot out on occasion to see who's better than the script kiddies.

You can download UBUNTU and run the whole show off of a cdrom, save all your email to a gmail account, save your files to a usb drive and if you think you've been compromised, reboot the machine.

Make your USB drive writeable only by you.

Use strong passwords.

Turn the computer off when you aren't on it.

4. Thanks for the advice
I just don't like being spied upon! This is a perfect example of our tax dollars at work. Invading our
privacy for no reason. Well, the emails are sent off. Perhaps when they realize that normal folks are getting hit they will do something... Everyone here at DU should be concerned.

7. Windows Defender sucks ass. If you are not on Vista, I would disable and delete it.
If you are on Vista, I think you can still disable it.
