Yep, I'm so glad we're a compassionate nation.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has also been noticeably absent on the diplomatic scene, having failed to interrupt her holidays to fly to Tbilisi in support of the Georgian government.

Instead senior State Department official, Matthew Bryza, who oversees the Caucasus region was sent, two days later than planned, to join a joint EU-US mediation effort to win a ceasefire.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, who is leading the mediation mission for the EU, said Monday the United States was "in a sense part of the conflict," between Russia and Georgia.

"You talk about the Americans, of course they are in a sense part of the conflict, that is why we must emphasise the presence and the strength of the European Union," Kouchner told French radio.

But State Department deputy spokesman Robert Wood sought Monday to dismiss the notion that the US was relatively powerless in face of the escalating conflict.

US releases 250,000 dollars for emergency aid in Georgia
Published: Monday August 11, 2008

The United States has made available 250,000 dollars in aid for ally Georgia aimed at providing emergency supplies for thousands of people affected by the Georgia-Russia conflict, the State Department said Monday.

The United States began bringing the urgently needed humanitarian aid to Georgia, but "it is expected that supplies (distributed by the US embassy in Tbilisi) will be exhausted by the end of the day" Monday, State Department spokesman Robert Wood said.

The embassy issued a disaster declaration Sunday "releasing 250,000 dollars in initial funding that can provide emergency relief supplies that can assist up to 10,000 people," Wood told reporters.

1. Well gee whiz!
Why can't Russia coordinate its invasions to accommodate Condi's vacation schedule? She's an expert, you know, and I don't think anyone could have foreseen that Russia would pick August as the month to launch an invasion.

2. You'd think she'd be excited to finally use some of her expert (!) Soviet knowledge.
Whatever. I guess it's time to replace the shoes she bought during the Katrina disaster.

4. She's just doing what Shrub did

She's on vacation and will return for a piece of McCain's birthday cake later this month. Then she'll do a fly over and some photo-ops and then take another vacation.

edited to add: In some ways it isn't her fault. She watches Fox News. As far as she knows the only story that's going on is that Edwards confessed to having an affair.

7. 250Gs?
Wow...such big spenders. Wanna bet there were billions of weapons (now in ruins) this regime and its defense contractors made off this country.

This regime has so compromised this country's diplomatic standing to make it into an international joke. We've alienated virtually everyone and then boooshie thinks people will take us seriously? Kindasleezy does her best work when she doesn't do anything. Methinks the Europeans are just like us...trying to survive this regime and looking forward to the day they are gone.

Thanks to the GOOP and the boooshies, this country went from being a Superpower to an impotent old man...anything a mouthpiece this regime now says is laughed at...except if you're a poor Georgian who just lost their homes and loved ones...they were just pawns and soon the corporate media will ignore this mess...just some poor unfortunate slobs with names they couldn't pronounce in the first place.
