Tomorrow (8/15) is the Statehood Day holiday in Hawai'i |
|
Cokie Roberts, please take note:
The actual date of admission was August 21, 1959, but the Friday before that date is a state holiday known as Statehood Day (formerly Admission Day).
Question, Cokie: Does your state celebrate its admission to the Union with a state holiday? In fact, what is your state? Isn't it Louisiana? I was there a year and a half ago, and it seemed awfully, you know, foreign and exotic to me, what with all the fleurs-de-lis on everything down to manhole covers, the French and Spanish street signs, etc., etc.

1. I hope you sent this little note to her too! Modo probably could use a nudge as well... |

I was a student at Kainalu Elementary School in Kailua, Oahu when statehood came. Everyone we knew was quite excited, let me tell you.
Mahalo for the post! :hi:
