WHAT...THE...FUCK...?
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/08/15/europe/15poland.php

<snip>
The United States and Poland reached a long-stalled deal on Thursday to place an American missile defense base on Polish territory, in the strongest reaction so far to Russia's military operation in Georgia.

Russia reacted angrily, saying that the move would worsen relations with the United States that have already been strained severely in the week since Russian troops entered separatist enclaves in Georgia, a close American ally.

But the deal reflected growing alarm in countries like Poland, once a conquered Soviet client state, about a newly rich and powerful Russia's intentions in its former cold war sphere of power. In fact, negotiations dragged on for 18 months — but were completed only as old memories and new fears surfaced in recent days.

Those fears were codified to some degree in what Polish and American officials characterized as unusual aspects of the final deal: that at least temporarily American soldiers would staff air defense sites in Poland oriented toward Russia, and that the United States would be obliged to defend Poland in case of an attack with greater speed than required under NATO, of which Poland is a member.
<snip>

I know this is a rhetorical question, but has this administration gone stark raving mad? It seems that * has been hell bent on fucking Russia over the past few years, doing everything in his power to antagonize them.

Are we powerless, consigned to do nothing but sit here and wait for this madman to drag us into WWIII?

1. The only industry we have any more is the arms business.
The military industrial virus needs the cold war back to refill the coffers.

3. What could he be thinking?
This is not the struggling, gasping, impotent Russia of a few years back-- this is a Russia to be reckoned with. His threats are laughable, we have no power, no money, no available military.

Who will the rest of the world side with -- us, the country that's failing, or Russia, the country with LOTS of oil?

I wonder how we got Poland to agree to this. We don't have much to offer in return.

by the Russians for centuries. They don't like the Germans much, either.

On edit: Reasons for the enmity between the Poles and the Germans and Rusians should be covered in any high-school or introductory college text on contemporary world or European history. I strongly suggest that you read one if you haven't.

13. I understand the history very well.

My question was about TODAY. I think going up against Russia isn't too smart these days, especially when your backer, the US, isn't the power it once was. I'm not sure if I'd take the chance, regardless of the history.

My best friends in school both had parents from Poland. The Urbaniaks and the Okinczyc family. I learned a LOT about Poland and what they went through first hand. I also had some Polish lethal alcohol which made my ears whistle and my nose run.

Just curious.

17. I can't answer that since I haven't seen one in 20 years, the other in 15 years.
So we can just go ahead and stop our conversation here.

16. Polan'ds been building weapons for us for years.
One of DUH-bya's first visits after he stole his first election was to Poland. Maybe it's part of a deal involving that cozy little relationship.

Remember?

This administration is intentionally trying to start WWIII.

What other evidence do we need to impeach?

7. I've been wondering for a day or so now if this is why
...we nudged Georgia into conflict with Russia and then left them in the cold as Russia pounded them back. Nothing better to sell defense than a little arranged threat, is there?

I can't begin to express to any of you how alarmed and concerned I am. We live under an evil, evil regime of warmongering devils from the pits of hell.

This administration is doing whatever the fuck it wants to do, with or without our consent.

It needs to stop and stop now, good Lord!!!

Wonder how many campaign contributions from Halliburton and subsidiaries are suddenly going to find their way to Dem candidates, in light of THIS little fiasco? We need to be calling OUR people and lighting fires under their seats to keep this from continuing.

F*cking madmen.

the system doesn't work anyway and has caused nothing but trouble, including with our friends. Canada didn't want it either. Doesn't the Russians have a system that really works? Vaporizes missles or something?
