New LA Times report about Ivins / Anthrax ... I have a question.... |
|
Here's the link to the story: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-anthrax15-2008aug15,0,4707256.story?page=1And here's my question: How did investigators find out about Ivins cleaning his work area with bleach? Did someone see him doing that? Did he mention it, but belatedly?

1. I think he reported it a few months later. |
|
He wasn't disciplined for the delay in reporting because they didn't want people to be afraid of whistleblowing, safety, etc. But it did raise suspicions. Not sure why his officemate's messy desk wasn't cause for them (her?) being a suspect.

2. Doesn't it seem unlikely that he'd self-report if he's trying to avoid detection? |

3. Sweet: blame Hatfill for not catching Ivins. |
|
Bleach story: another loose end whose answers will breed swarms of questions.

7. Steve Hatfill looks terrible. He's gained like 50 pounds. |

It needs a full investigation.
Pull on this thread and who knows what it may unravel.

6. This article is so bizarre but also, so typical. |
|
The spill occurred, iirc. when material from one of the letters they were evaluating leaked on a lab tech's desk. It may have been the Daschle letter but I'm not sure. Ivins cleaned it up and cleaned up other areas where it might have been tracked. The lab tech knew about it.
But, this article makes it sound as if the leak was from the material they believe Ivins mailed, not the material he was given to evaluate.
