Pelosi to address nation on gas prices
Pelosi to address nation on gas prices
By Mike Soraghan
Posted: 08/15/08 01:52 PM

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is hitting back directly at President Bush and congressional Republicans on energy and gas prices.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) will deliver the Democrats’ weekly radio address, which is a response to the president’s weekly address to the country. She will take aim at Republican energy policies, highlighting Bush's and Vice President Cheney’s background in the oil industry, and lay out the Democrats’ latest plan for energy independence and addressing high gasoline prices.

“America faces a choice: a continuation of the Bush-Cheney-McCain approach that perpetuates the failed policies that have produced soaring prices,” Pelosi will say, according to a partial transcript of her remarks released Friday, “or a comprehensive, bipartisan strategy that develops new and traditional sources of energy.”

1. Gas prices are on the table, Nancy?
Any room left for impeachment?

'cause, you know, tick-tock, tick-tock....

4. It's never too late to remind people
I will certainly remind my Democratic Congressman, that I am opposed to Pelosi as Speaker of the House for the next Congress.

8.  If I had a position of authority, absolutely not. But as we've seen for
years, there's not enough of a backbone in the major players to bring this about. I know, the truth stinks.

10. Are you calling me out for not being patriotic? I prefer to
consider my thinking to be based in reality.
And what are you doing to fight? I don't hear anyone speaking about impeachment, and I've signed the petitions and supported those who have fought for it. It's not happening-that's the reality.

11. Nothing to get so defensive about.
Some of us are just trying to get others to realize what an IMPORTANT issue this is.

Just as important as faulty voting machines... at least THAT important.

Wiping it away.... and telling us we're not "reality-based"... who are YOU calling out with that?

Chill, dear.

13. smile. You go on the personal attack, and then get defensive when someone calls you on it.
Now THAT'S "progressive".

Real peace-making, that.

Peace, dearie.

15. You must see ghosts everywhere you look
BabylonSister is on our team. All that was said is that it seemed apparent that impeachment will not occur, which seemed to offend you in some fashion as if BS was responsible personally for that fact.

There are plenty of people claiming to be Democrats who act instead as apologists or enablers for Bush and his henchmen, to be sure. BS, however, is not one of them so let's focus on those who are shall we?

18. I have supported you for years. For you to call me out today really
sucks-from you. You're homeless, were homeless, whatever, but you are a progressive. Sure.
You have your own agenda that might not match mine, but to consider me unpatriotic is beyond you.

Enjoy your self indulgence, or whatever encourages you. You are not the homeless advocate I thought you were, especially right about now. Good luck in your life. I'm done with you.

23. I strongly encourage you to reread your judgmental words, THEN
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 02:09 PM by bobbolink
think about who called who out.

It's one thing to disagree...it's another thing to judge people.

You're so convinced you're right, and that nobody else has a right to a different opinion.

Just look at how you NOW say that I'm not really homeless---basically calling me a fraud, because I dared to disagree with you.

These judgements and poo flinging do nobody any good, but it's become the standard practice.

Now, you can fling back more poo, or you can think about inflexibility, and how your judgement that you're the only one who can decide what "reality" is affects others.

THINK... it only hurts for a little while.

Or, you can go for the jugular.

Oh, and I'm afraid I don't really remember all that "support".

Actually, I don't really remember you replying to ANY poverty topics. Did I miss something?

25. You can't be serious
Next to the late Sapphire Blue, Babylon Sister has been one of the strongest advocates here for justice for the poor.

Sorry, Bobbolink, but YOU were the one that called her out, not the other way around. My husband is right. You took her statement that she has given up on these people (Pelosi included) ever impeaching Bush and turned it into a statement on her patriotism.

"You're so convinced you're right, and that nobody else has a right to a different opinion." - In this case, that is exactly how you are acting.

27. I realize that it's popular on DU to smugly tell people "I'm firmly based in realty" meaning that,
of course, the one being spoken to is in la-la land.

That is an attack, and a putdown, and does NOTHING to create consensus.

Saying that I attacked her patriotism is ridiculous. I said, "Patriots fight for their country even when it stinks."

That's not an attack on anybody--it was a DEFENSE to her position that SHE is "reality-based" and those of us who want to see the criminals punished are off somewhere in space. WE are just as "reality-based" as she is, and SHOULD be able to state our position without being so pridefully put down for it.

As for her thing about poverty, to attack me in that way when I was talking about a totally different issue was low. "I felt sorry for you until you disagreed with me" was the jist of that, and that certainly isn't the way to build party "unity".

Looking for things to attack when someone disagrees (and I wasn't even disagreeing--just stating that it's a justice issue, and some of us continue to do what we can), is really silly.

As is this whole thing.

You don't like me? So? That's supposed to wound me into submission? I've seen waaay too much ugliness in this forum to take it personally any longer. There are so many power plays here by soc-called "progressives" who want "peace" that it's laughable.

This thread is about impeachment, and I was trying to state my position on that.

You want to turn it into poverty, and who is greatest? Have at it. I don't rate with the top names in that in your opinion? Terrific. Go ahead and YOU keep up with the issues that need stressing in Congress. YOU try to get people to call and write. I see VERY FEW names here in those threads. It's not popular with ANY "progressive", at DU or elsewhere, so you want me to feel down because I'm not the best advocate in your opinion? Go for it. Show me how you can do it so much better.

I welcome it.

28. I never saw her say anything about you not being based in reality
You are putting words in her mouth... and mine, too.

As far as the rest of your post here, I, also, am entitled to my opinion. No, I never wanted to turn anything into who is the greatest advocate for the poor. I think you were wrong to attack her, which is my opinion, but not everything is so cut and dried. She said "I prefer to think of myself as based in reality". That doesn't mean that automatically, you are not.

Now, you are attacking me for my opinion. Who the fuck said "I don't like you"? How do you get that out of what I posted?

Wow, I've never seen this side from you before, Bobbolink. Maybe you are just having a bad week, but burning all your friends (well, at least people who thought they were) at the stake really doesn't seem like a great way of getting people to see your side of things and build unity in the quest for justice. This will certainly make me do a lot more research on items that you ask me to sign, instead of taking your word for it that it's a great cause.

The whole thread is right there, Bobbolink. You can't just come here and post "This is what she said". I have eyes and I can read and you were wrong to attack her. But then, you attacked me and my husband, too, for our opinion that it's wrong for you to attack Babylonsister, so maybe you are just in an attacking mood.

As for the relationship between you and I, I'm glad you are not hurt by anything I have to say. It's stupid that I am hurt by your words, I guess, but so be it.
